About me and my therapy practice
With ten years' experience as a therapist, I see therapy as a space for learning and reconnecting with yourself, others and the world.
Over the past decade I've developed specialisms in anxiety, relationship issues and grief and bereavement.
Anxiety
You're constantly feeling on edge. You feel anxious about health issue or social situations. You worry constantly and overthink everything. You have a loud inner critic and frequently berate yourself. You lack confidence and self-esteem.
Relationships
You find yourself in relationships with 'the wrong' people. You keep having arguments or misunderstandings. You find yourself repeating patterns with friends or family. You find it difficult to make or maintain friendships. You're unhappy in your relationship and want to leave but are not sure how. Affairs have impacted your relationships and broken trust. You're thinking about opening up your relationship to include additional people.
Grief & bereavement
You're struggling with anticipatory grief as a loved one has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. You lost someone suddenly and unexpectedly. You're struggling with 'secondary losses' - loss of role, identity, status or changes in friendships and other relationships. You're struggling with guilt or regret. You're struggling with loneliness and adapting to a life which looks different now. You're not sure how to grieve or how to feel. You struggle with anniversaries or other significant days. You feel your grief has to be hidden because your loss wasn't known by others.
Practice description
Together we'll explore, think, understand and find new perspectives to help you move forward and live your life fully in whatever way you choose.
To help us both understand your problems and difficulties, I draw upon different ideas from psychotherapy, psychology and philosophy to open up new perspectives and possibilities which can lead to change, transformation and acceptance.
I'm quite active in sessions, so I'll ask you questions to help you further explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences or to help us explore more deeply or to gently challenge you.
I'm very interested in how your upbringing has shaped you and influenced your values and beliefs and how you see yourself and the world around you.
I'm also very interested in how the values of freedom, choice, meaning, isolation and connection are present in your life.
My first session
Our first session give us both an opportunity to meet and for you to tell me more about your current situation and what you're looking for from therapy.
I will ask you whether you've had therapy before and if so, what was or wasn't helpful about any previous experiences.
You can also ask me any questions you may have and I will tell you how I could see our work developing.
Towards the end of the session, we will decide if we want to continue working together or if you'd prefer to have some time to think about it, you're welcome to do so and contact me later with your decision.
Sessions are 60 minutes.
