About me and my therapy practice

Life can sometimes leave us feeling anxious, depressed and confused. Often we don't understand why. Such feelings usually result from difficult or traumatic situations in our past that remain unresolved and are affecting how we live our life in the present.

Psychotherapy and counselling can offer a safe, supportive and confidential space where you can explore and better understand your present life situation and work through the past situations which are still causing difficulty. This can help you to make choices in your life that will support your well-being.

My background is in Psychosynthesis which means I use a person-centred and integrative approach, drawing on different areas of psychotherapy. This helps me to respond to your individual needs. The basic approach is through talking and listening but sometimes other techniques can be useful such as drawing, journaling, guided visualisation and exploring dreams.

I bring a warm, supportive presence to my therapy practice and have experience with a number of issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, relationship difficulties, spiritual growth and life stage issues.

I work with adults and young people from the age of sixteen.

I work in-person at Openings in Bath city centre. I also offer sessions online.

Practice description

Following a phone chat and an initial session to see if I am the right fit for you, we will meet weekly at the same time, as I find that to be most effective in supporting change.

The space is yours to talk about the issues that are troubling you and that you need help with. Our work is confidential and you will be treated with kindness, understanding and respect, and not judged. I listen in a way that is designed to help you become clearer about yourself and your life.

Our work together is open-ended and you are of course free to stop at any time and for whatever reason. Generally, it becomes clear when someone has found their way out of the difficulties that brought them to counselling and we will then talk about ending.

The length of the process depends very much on individual needs and circumstances and can vary from a few weeks to a few years.

My first session

The first session is an 'initial session', meaning it is an opportunity for us to meet and get a sense of whether our working together will be of benefit to you.  It gives you a flavour of how I work and if you feel that will suit you. You may feel you want to continue at the end of the first session or you may wish to go away and think about it.

During the first session I will take down some personal details and ask a few questions about your history. The bulk of the session will be space for you to talk about what is bringing you to therapy.  Before the session ends, there will be time for you to ask me any questions you may have, about me, or about therapy, and for us to look through my contract together.

Like subsequent sessions, the first session costs £60 and lasts for fifty minutes. It must be paid for in advance and at the full fee. If you need to request a concession in order to help afford the cost of therapy, we can discuss that during the first session.
