About me and my therapy practice

Hello,

My therapy philosophy is built on the relationship between myself and you. I am aware of the subjective truth each of us holds, and the importance of how gently this is explored, examined, and protected. At the heart of this philosophy is a genuine, compassionate approach which will allow you, perhaps for the first time, to express and explore yourself without fear or shame. I am curious and genuinely interested to understand you.

For young people, my focus, as with adults, is that the therapeutic relationship is paramount to enable them to feel safe to explore their emotions and develop understanding. I am keen to empower young people to have a voice, and work through difficulties that may be causing them to become distressed.

My therapy practice supports your investment in yourself to enable understanding, harmony, healing and change. Through this work, you will recognise the unconscious dynamics that run your life and how to liberate yourself from them.

Practice description

I offer a relational, trauma-informed therapy grounded in the Neuro Affective Relational Model (NARM). My work is based on the understanding that many of the struggles we experience as adults are not signs that something is wrong with us, but creative adaptations that once helped us survive.

Healing happens within relationship. Therapy is not something that is done to you, but something we create together. I think of the therapeutic relationship as a dance: you set the pace, I remain deeply present, and together we become curious about what unfolds from moment to moment. Rather than trying to fix you, I help you discover the wisdom already within you.

I am particularly interested in how shame, self-criticism and patterns of disconnection shape our lives. Rather than focusing on symptoms or behaviours alone, we gently explore the deeper emotional and nervous system patterns that give rise to them. As awareness grows, choice becomes possible.

NARM integrates mind, body and emotions without requiring you to revisit traumatic memories before you are ready. Together we pay attention to what is happening in the present moment—your thoughts, feelings, body sensations and impulses—allowing your nervous system to move towards greater regulation, resilience and connection.

Self-compassion lies at the heart of my work. I believe every adaptation once served a purpose and deserves understanding rather than judgement. My role is to provide a safe, compassionate and collaborative space where you can reconnect with your authentic self, strengthen your capacity for relationship, and live with greater freedom and vitality.

Although my practice is now primarily informed by NARM, it is also enriched by my previous training in Compassionate Inquiry and many years of experience as a therapist and oncology nurse. These influences continue to shape the way I listen—with curiosity, warmth and deep respect for each person’s unique journey.

My first session

I offer a complimentary assessment which is a 30-minute session. This is an opportunity for you to get to know more about me and my approach to therapy before committing to work with me. I too find it helpful.

At this session I will establish your expectations of therapy as well as your presenting issue, history, and supportive relationships. I make it clear at this time that it is an opportunity for you to get a sense of how the therapy will proceed and how you will feel around me. I will explain how therapy works, if appropriate. I will be working to clear the space around you and helping you to consider things from a different perspective. I will be looking at your defences and as we develop trust and rapport, I will be building a detailed picture of you, working out with you what you need to help you live a more fulfilling life.
