About me and my therapy practice

The process of counselling facilitates greater self-awareness and understanding of ourselves which enables us to recognise how past experiences may have shaped us and to identify patterns of behaviour that can limit us and stand in the way of leading a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

Whether you’re seeking counselling to help deal with a particular issue or current circumstance, or to make sense and gain understanding of longer term difficulties, I can support you in exploring thoughts and feelings and work collaboratively to cultivate positive change. This self-reflection can help individuals make informed decisions, set meaningful goals, and create a more fulfilling and purposeful life. As a result, clients can become more adept at identifying and implementing effective problem-solving strategies in their daily lives.

About me and my therapy practice

I have been a Clinical Supervisor since 2006 and whilst my roots are in Person-Centred practice, I work in an integrative approach, including creative supervision, and am experienced in working successfully with practitioners from many different orientations.

I have a great interest in the professional and personal development of counsellors and supporting their engagement with clients through deepening their understanding of the dynamics of the therapeutic relationship. The more the therapist is themselves in the relationship, genuine and authentic, the greater is the likelihood that the client will change and grow in a constructive manner.

Supervision for counsellors is an ethical requirement in order to maintain good practice and continued professional development. Clinical Supervision provides an exploratory space for practitioners to reflect on their work, explore ethical and safeguarding issues, consider their own continuing professional development and feel supported and held throughout their process.

As well as supervising adult work, I have extensive experience supervising clinical work with children and young people, having worked for the children's mental health charity Place2Be for 16 years as a School Project Manager, Trainer and Programme Leader.  I then moved into the role of Head of Learning, overseeing all clinical training for staff and counsellors on placement, and counselling training from Level 2 through to Post Graduate Diploma.

Practice description

I work as a Clinical Supervisor with both qualified Counsellors and Counsellors in training and also provide supervision for other therapeutic practitioners (including pastoral care workers, designated safeguarding leads, etc).

I have a Diploma in Clinical Supervision and alongside my private practice supporting practitioners working with adults, children and young people I am an approved supervisor on Metanoia Institute's BSc (Hons) Person-Centred Pluralistic Counselling course,  Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression course and BSc Humanistic Counselling course.
