Practice description
At our initial assessment there is no obligation to proceed if you decide not to. This is an opportunity for us to discuss the life difficulties for which you are considering Counselling or Psychotherapy and to explore how we will work together and what you can expect from therapy. I feel it is very important that you as the client feel heard and understood and that you feel comfortable working with me. The first session is an ideal time to look at how we move forward I will aim to answer any questions you may have about what happens next. How appointments are set up and to explain the confidentiality agreement.
People can experience emotional distress at times, maybe because of a difficult childhood, relationship issues, past or recent trauma, bereavement. You may be experiencing anxiety or depression, or feel that life holds no meaning for you. You may feel you only focus on how to move away from a negative situation rather than being able to look at what you want for yourself, what your goals are. What if you need to make important decisions. You know you want to make the changes, but somehow feel stuck in following through with them.
I believe therapy can help the client make connections with early life experiences and how those experiences might still be impacting on the way they are living their life in the present. We sometimes still use old outdated coping strategies to help solve problems. I believe through therapy that we can build up and restore more healthier coping strategies and expand on our inner resources so that we can regain a better quality of life and feel that there are more choices open to us. It is so important that people feel respected and truly valued for who they really are.
