About me and my therapy practice

I'm Sharon Nicholson - ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited Counsellor, Brainspotting Practitioner, and Certified Narcissistic Abuse Specialistâ„¢, with over 20 years of clinical experience. I work online with adults across the UK, including Altrincham and the surrounding Greater Manchester area.

My clients are typically women who are competent, capable, and used to holding things together - yet privately worn down by something they struggle to put into words. From the outside, life looks like it's working. Inside, something feels stuck, anxious, or simply not enough, however hard they try.

Often there's a current trigger - a relationship ending, a betrayal that keeps looping, a long-standing difficulty with a parent, anxiety that persists even when nothing is visibly wrong. Underneath that surface issue, there's frequently an older relational pattern that hasn't yet been named or understood.

You don't need to have the language for it. You just need to recognise the feeling.

🌿 "After having a number of unsuccessful attempts to find the right therapist for me...Sharon has been more than I had even allowed myself to hope for. She totally exceeded my hopes or any expectation I may have had."

— Client experience

Practice description

I'm a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited Counsellor and Brainspotting Practitioner with over 20 years of clinical experience, including ten years within NHS talking therapies as a Senior Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor. In specialist private practice since 2007, I work exclusively online with adults across the UK.

My main approach is Brainspotting - a body-based therapy that grew out of EMDR and reaches what talking and understanding alone often cannot shift. It's a precise and powerful therapy, frequently more gentle and intuitive than people anticipate.

I integrate Brainspotting with parts-informed therapy and somatic work, tailoring the approach to each person.

🌿 "I have tried CBT, Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness, Compassionate Mind Training and have a whole library of books on the subject — but nothing has really worked long term until I discovered Brainspotting."

— Client experience

Sessions and Intensives

My standard session is 90 minutes - longer than the typical therapy hour, allowing genuine depth and space to process.

I also offer therapy intensives: immersive work spread across two or three days, with a follow-up integration session included. For those juggling busy professional lives, this offers a different way of working - concentrated, uninterrupted time that can often move things forward in days rather than months of weekly sessions.

All work begins with a free clarity call - a relaxed conversation to explore where you are and whether this feels like the right fit.

🌿 "I am finally living my life in colour again after 30 years in black and white."

— Client experience

About me and my therapy practice

I'm Sharon Nicholson - ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited Counsellor, Brainspotting Practitioner, and Certified Narcissistic Abuse Specialistâ„¢ with over 20 years of clinical experience. I work online with clients across the UK, including London and the Home Counties.

I work with women who are successful, capable, and holding it all together - but privately feel stuck, anxious, lacking in confidence, or held back in ways they can't quite explain. Women who procrastinate despite being capable. Who struggle in relationships despite trying hard. Who feel like they should be further along by now - in their career, their relationships, their sense of themselves.

Often, when we begin to look beneath the surface, there is a relational origin. A parent whose love felt conditional. A relationship that slowly eroded something essential - through betrayal, narcissistic abuse, or a dynamic that quietly dimmed something in you. A pattern so longstanding it has started to feel like personality rather than history.

You don't need to have that clarity yet. You just need to recognise yourself here.

Practice description

I am a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited Counsellor and Brainspotting Practitioner with over 20 years of clinical experience, including a decade in NHS talking therapies, specialising in Counselling for Depression. I have been in specialist private practice since 2007.

My primary approach is Brainspotting - a body-based therapy evolved out of EMDR that works directly with the nervous system, reaching what talking and understanding alone have never quite shifted. It is precise, deeply effective, and often experienced as more quietly powerful than people expect.

I work integratively, weaving Brainspotting with parts-informed therapy and somatic approaches - addressing not just what happened, but where it is still being held in the body.

🌿 "I have tried CBT, Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness, Compassionate Mind Training and have a whole library of books on the subject — but nothing has really worked long term until I discovered Brainspotting."

I offer 90-minute sessions - longer than the standard therapy hour, because this depth of work needs genuine space.

I also offer therapy intensives: immersive, concentrated work over two or three days, each including a follow-up integration session. For those ready to give this focused, uninterrupted time - what might take months in weekly sessions, an intensive can often access in days.

For women with demanding careers and limited time, an intensive can be the most efficient and powerful investment they make in themselves.

We always begin with a free call - a quiet conversation about where you are and whether this feels like the right fit.

About me and my therapy practice

I'm Sharon Nicholson - ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited Counsellor, Brainspotting Practitioner, and Certified Narcissistic Abuse Specialistâ„¢ with over 20 years of clinical experience. Based in Weymouth, Dorset, I work exclusively online with clients across the UK.

I specialise in relational trauma - betrayal, narcissistic abuse, and the quiet, cumulative harm of relationships that slowly changed you. Many of the women I work with have been carrying something for a long time. They are functioning - often well - but something essential has gone quiet. They feel lost, stuck, or like they've never quite felt enough, and they're not entirely sure why.

This is deeply specialist work. It goes further than talking, and it reaches the places that insight and understanding alone have never quite touched.

🌿 "Sharon has been like a wonderful guide, helping to support me towards a better, happier life path — one I didn't know how to find fully for myself, because I had no reference points."

About me and my therapy practice

Hi I'm Sharon

I’m a trauma-informed therapist specialising in relational trauma, including betrayal, emotionally unsafe relationships, and narcissistic abuse.

Many of the people I work with have left the relationship that hurt them, yet still feel its effects, second-guessing themselves, feeling on edge, or struggling to reconnect with who they are.

Often there’s a sense of knowing what happened, but not yet feeling settled.

My work supports those deeper layers. I work in a gentle, collaborative, and body-led way, using Brainspotting and parts-informed therapy to help experiences that haven’t yet had the space or safety to process.

Therapy with me isn’t about analysing or fixing yourself. It’s about creating the conditions where your nervous system can begin to soften, integrate, and move forward in its own time.

Alongside ongoing therapy, I also offer focused online trauma intensives for people who feel ready to dedicate time and attention to deeper healing.

We always begin with an initial consultation so we can think together about what support feels most appropriate for you.

I work online with adults across the UK.

"Trauma is not the story of something that happened back then, it's the current imprint of that pain."

- Bessel Van Der Kolk

Practice description

🌿 "To anyone thinking about starting this Brainspotting journey with Sharon, all I can say is just do it! The benefits are huge and it's time those of us who are affected by the past break free from it all and move forward with peace and happiness. Brainspotting is truly remarkable, and Sharon is an excellent guide. I can highly recommend it!"

~ Client experience

My trauma-informed approach draws on Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Practices, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), with Brainspotting at the heart of my work.

Evolved out of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Brainspotting is a gentle, neuroscience based therapeutic approach that helps process and release what your body has been holding onto.

Talking therapy works mainly with the logical, thinking part of the brain, but trauma is not held there, which means talking alone is not always enough.

Brainspotting goes deeper - using focused eye position and mindful attunement to connect with the deeper part of the brain where these experiences live. Optional bi-lateral music can also be played to help your brain and body find calm and balance.

You can choose from:

• 90-minute sessions - These sessions allow space for deeper processing and opportunity for more progress.

• Therapy Intensives (3-hour sessions over 2 days, plus follow-up session) - Uninterrupted space for profound, extended processing, offering the opportunity for breakthroughs that might otherwise take weeks or months.

This is where your story can change, and it would be a privilege to be a part of that with you.

My first session

Free Clarity Call (20-minutes)

• This is a free-of-charge phone call that lasts approx 20 minutes. This is for us to talk about what you are experiencing, what you need and if sessions with me may be helpful for you. This call is purely informative, and not a therapeutic service.

• I will always endeavour to provide referral options for you if we decide that I am not the right fit for your needs.

Assessment/Intake Session (90-minutes)

• Your first full session is a 90-minute comprehensive assessment and intake, where we look at your experiences, hopes and goals in more depth.

• Priced slightly lower than my standard 90-minute sessions, it focuses on assessment, planning, and understanding your needs, before you begin full therapy.

• You get to share with me whatever feels comfortable, there is absolutely no pressure to talk about anything until you feel ready.

• Any assessment questionnaires and guidance on next steps are completed together, helping you feel supported and confident about moving forward in the way that works best for you.

About me and my therapy practice

I'm Sharon Nicholson - ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited Counsellor, Brainspotting Practitioner, and Certified Narcissistic Abuse Specialistâ„¢ with over 20 years of clinical experience. I work online with clients across the UK, including Surrey, London, and the South East.

I work with women who appear to have everything in order - the career, the relationships, the capability - but privately feel lost, stuck, or like they've never quite felt enough. Women who have achieved a great deal and still feel somehow behind. Who are highly capable in their professional lives and yet struggle with confidence, boundaries, or a persistent sense of not being quite right.

Often there is a relational thread running beneath it all. A childhood in which approval was hard-won or never fully given. A relationship that changed them - through betrayal, infidelity, or a dynamic that slowly eroded their sense of self. A pattern they keep returning to despite knowing better.

The work here goes deeper than talking. And it reaches further than insight alone.
