About me and my therapy practice
Hello and Welcome.
My name is Jo and I am a psychodynamic therapist with 17 years experience. I will provide you with a safe and confidential environment where we can work together to help you make sense of what doesn't feel right in your emotional world. I am kind, open and honest, completely non-judgemental, and I take into account every client's unique needs.
I can help with a wide range of emotional and mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. You don't need to be in crisis before you seek help.
I also have a special interest in helping clients who are navigating major life transitions;
- The stages of pregnancy, the perinatal period and parenthood. These are often portrayed as being joyous, but in reality they can be challenging. I worked for 7 years in an NHS Infant and Parent Perinatal Service, and have done both an infant and a young child observation, which inform my work with all my clients, particularly relating to attachment.
- In your career: leaving university, changing career, job loss and retirement
- In relationships and family issues: getting married, pregnancy, rearing children, children leaving home, divorce and bereavement,
- In your health: major illness, chronic pain, the menopause and significant birthdays.
My psychodynamic training means that I help clients think about aspects of their past which may be influencing how they think and behave in the present. I have a deep understanding of human emotional development which comes from many years of working with children and young adults, and this helps me in understanding the roots of your emotional difficulties.
I will check with you regularly to make sure that the pace and focus of the work feels right for you.
Practice description
I work online, seeing clients for 50 minutes once a week, at the same time and on the same day each week.
I offer a free 30 minute consultation by phone first, so that you can find out whether I might be a good fit for you, and to explore any queries you might have.
At present I have availability for time-limited work. This means that we would agree on a number of sessions, often around 26. This would have the advantage of your knowing in advance what the financial implications would be. We would work in a more focused way than in open-ended work, and a great deal of change and growth can happen in a relatively short time..
My first session
In the first session I will ask you for some baseline information I will then ask you to tell me a bit about why you have come to me and what your goals for therapy are. I will then be guided by you.
