About me and my therapy practice

Hello,

I provide caring, confidential counselling and psychotherapy for adults aged 18+. I offer online sessions across the UK and in-person appointments in a relaxed and welcoming environment at my practice in Beeston, Nottingham. I work inclusively with people from a wide range of backgrounds, identities and life experiences. I believe we all have worth, value and dignity as a human being and deserve to be treated accordingly with respect and compassion.

As a qualified, ÌÇÐĹÙÍø-registered and accredited therapist, I have been supporting clients in private practice since 2009. I provide a safe, calm and supportive space where you can talk openly about what's happening in your life and feel heard without judgement.

Over the years, I have incorporated a variety of therapeutic approaches into my work. This allows me to respond flexibly to each client and adapt therapy to what feels most helpful for you. My approach is quite down to earth - I recognise that there is no "one-size-fits all" path to recovery, growth or wellbeing. Instead, we can draw on different ways of working to support your individual needs, goals and circumstances.

When do I see clients?

I offer a range of morning, lunchtime, afternoon and early evening appointments Monday to Friday.

My first session

I offer a free initial 30-minute telephone consultation to discuss what you are looking for from your sessions, find out a bit more about your situation and give you the chance to ask any questions you might have. It also gives us a chance to get to know each other a little before your first session.

I know the first session can feel daunting, walking through the door the first time is walking into the unknown. But once we've met, you've seen the room and experienced how the process works, it gets a lot easier. You don't need to prepare anything, or bring anything other than yourself and some water and tissues.

We usually start with a recap of what's brought you to therapy and then begin to explore in more detail from there. We will look at your current situation and symptoms, and that will inform which direction we explore from there. The first couple of sessions is mostly about finding out what's been happening for you and taking a history.

I will listen to you without judgment and help you to gradually explore your thinking, feelings and beliefs around an issue, so that you feel safe and supported to experiment and make any changes you feel would be helpful at a pace that is right for you.

At the outset you may or may not have a clear idea of what specific changes you want to make; to begin with you may simply want to talk about how you are feeling, what’s happening for you right now and feel listened to and accepted – and that’s OK.

If you are funding your sessions via your private medical insurance then I will send you some standard symptom severity assessment forms to fill out online after the first couple of sessions. This is information I will need for your insurer - it just involves ticking boxes, not lengthy answers, so only takes a few minutes.
