About me and my therapy practice

My love of animals and the outdoors have always been an important part of who I am. This connection, and the grounding support it can offer during loss, bereavement, change or uncertainty, was one of the reasons I trained as a counsellor.

Counselling brings together my care for people, my belief in the importance of feeling truly heard, and the calm, grounding presence that nature and animals can offer. I aim to provide a safe, warm and natural therapeutic space where you can explore what is going on for you at a pace that feels right.

I offer a warm, welcoming and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly. You do not need to have everything worked out before you come; counselling can help you pause, feel heard and begin to make sense of what you are carrying.

My approach is compassionate, down-to-earth and collaborative. As an integrative counsellor, I draw on different therapeutic approaches to suit you, your needs and the pace that feels right for you.

Being outdoors helps me feel steady, renewed and energised, whether I am walking Lily and Norman, spending time on the fells or by the sea, or sitting quietly in the garden. For some people, being outside or walking side by side can make it easier to settle, reflect and talk.

Where appropriate, I offer walking and talking therapy and animal-assisted interventions. Lily, my rescue beagle cross, works alongside me in the therapy room, and Norman, my rescued collie, is beginning his own training.

These options are always discussed carefully, so therapy feels supportive, comfortable and right for you, whether that is in a quiet room, outdoors, or with the gentle presence of an animal.

I also have NHS experience, working between 2015 and 2020 in mental health and sexual health services.

Practice description

I am a qualified integrative counsellor and an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (ÌÇÐĹÙÍø). My private practice is based in Skinburness, and I also offer walking talking therapy in and around Silloth and the surrounding area.

I work with adults and couples who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, loneliness, trauma, domestic abuse, loss, bereavement, disability, illness, relationship difficulties, or periods of uncertainty and change. Whatever has brought you here, my aim is to offer a safe and respectful space where you can feel listened to, supported and understood.

Walking talking therapy, sometimes called Green Therapy, can offer a gentler alternative to sitting face to face indoors. Being outside, moving gently and noticing the world around us can help some people feel more grounded, less pressured and more able to reflect. Sessions take place in natural daylight and can last between one and three hours, depending on what feels suitable for you.

Animal assisted interventions may also be available with my dog, if this feels right for you. This can include simple, calming activities such as walking, stroking, brushing or playing. For some clients, the presence of an animal can bring comfort, help ease anxiety and support a sense of connection within the therapeutic space.

Alongside my counselling practice, I also offer Ofqual-regulated Level 1, 2 and 3 First Aid for Mental Health courses for individuals, community groups and workplaces. I run four-hour anxiety and stress workshops too, offering gentle, practical ways to understand stress responses and support emotional wellbeing.
