About me and my therapy practice

Starting counselling can feel daunting, especially if you are used to coping on your own. It is not always easy to know where to begin, and you may just know that something feels heavy, confusing, or difficult to keep carrying by yourself.

Grief, loss and bereavement are a particular part of my work. I know that grief is not always neat or easy to explain. It can show up as anxiety, anger, numbness, guilt, low mood, changes in relationships, or a feeling that life has shifted in a way other people do not fully understand. Whether your loss is recent or happened some time ago, we can talk about it at your pace.

I also work with people experiencing anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, family issues, life changes, and feelings of being stuck or overwhelmed. Together, we can explore what has been happening, how it has affected you, and what might help you begin to feel more like yourself again.

I have around 10 years’ experience as a therapist, working across private practice, bereavement services, young adult counselling, and Place2Be, where I supported primary school children. Alongside my private practice, I'm the Service Lead at a bereavement counselling service.

I also offer supervision to counsellors and trainee counsellors as a supervisor in training. I see supervision as a thoughtful and supportive space to reflect on client work, think about the counselling relationship, and help counsellors feel more steady and confident in their practice.

I am a qualified therapist with a BA (Hons) in Counselling and a registered member of the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø. I work within the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Ethical Framework and am currently training as a clinical supervisor.

Practice description

Counselling with me will offer a space to slow things down, talk honestly, and begin to make sense of what you are feeling in your own way.

My approach is humanistic and relational, which means I believe the relationship between us is the most important part of the work. I won’t pretend to have all the answers, but I will work with you to begin to understand what is happening for you.

In sessions with me, we will start wherever you are. You don’t need to come with everything worked out, or even know exactly what you want to say. Sometimes we might talk about what is happening in your life now, and other times we may find ourselves thinking about your earlier experiences, relationships, or patterns that keep coming up.

I’ll listen carefully and may reflect back what I am hearing, gently notice things that feel important, or wonder with you about what may be going on. I won’t tell you what to do, but together we can begin to understand what is happening for you.

Sometimes having somewhere where you don’t have to hold difficult feelings on your own can be helpful. My hope is to offer a therapeutic relationship where you can speak honestly, feel understood, and begin to find your own way forward.

All sessions are 50 minutes and start on the hour.

My first session

The first session is an introductory session and will be different from ongoing counselling sessions. It's is a chance to meet, talk through what has brought you to counselling, and think together about what you may be hoping for from the work.

This session will include an assessment, so I will ask more questions than I would in later sessions. This might include questions about what is happening for you now, your background, any support you already have in place, and anything important around risk, safety or confidentiality.

It is also a chance for you to get a sense of how I work and to ask any questions you may have. We can then decide together whether it feels like we are a good fit.

Sessions after this are less directive and more led by you, working at your pace and with whatever feels most important to bring.
