About me and my therapy practice

Deciding to talk to someone you have never met about the hardest parts of your life takes a fair bit of courage. If you are reading this, you have probably been carrying something for a while, and part of you is wondering whether talking about it will actually help.

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I do not work from a single fixed method. I draw on whatever fits the person in front of me, rather than trying to make you fit a model. Much of my approach is solution focused, so alongside making sense of how things got to this point, we will pay attention to what might help you move forward.

My background is in philosophy and existential therapy. In plain terms, that means I take the bigger questions seriously, the ones about meaning, change, and living with things that cannot simply be fixed, while keeping both feet on the ground.

I am not here to judge you or hand you advice from a script. I will be honest with you, I will not pretend therapy is a quick fix, and I will treat you as a capable adult going through something difficult, not as a problem to be solved.

Practice description

I offer counselling to adults across the North East, both in person and online. I am based in Washington, Tyne and Wear, and I see people remotely too, so distance does not have to be a barrier.

We usually start with a short conversation, by phone or video, before committing to anything. It costs nothing and there is no pressure. It is simply a chance to talk about what is going on, ask me anything, and get a sense of whether I am the right person for you. Therapy only works if it feels right, and that matters more than filling a slot.

Sessions last around 50 minutes and are usually weekly, though we can talk about what suits you. Some people come for a few weeks to work through something specific. Others stay longer. There is no fixed script and no set number of sessions you are signed up to.

What happens in the room stays between us, within the usual professional and legal limits, which I will explain clearly at the start. You will never have to wonder where you stand.

I will not rush you and I will not pretend to have all the answers. We will work at your pace, and you are always in charge of what you bring and what you leave for another day.

My first session

The first session is free, and there is nothing to fill in beforehand.

I know some practices ask you to complete forms or assessments before you have even spoken to anyone. I do not. The first conversation is simply that, a conversation. We can talk about what has brought you here, you can ask me anything you like, and you can get a sense of whether I feel like the right fit.

There is no charge and no obligation to book anything afterwards. If it does not feel right, that is completely fine, and I am happy to point you towards someone who might suit you better.
