About me and my therapy practice
I understand that seeking therapy can feel like a significant step. My aim is to provide a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences openly. I believe that meaningful change happens within a safe therapeutic relationship, where you feel heard, understood and accepted.
I work collaboratively, recognising that every person is unique. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor therapy to your individual needs, goals and circumstances. Together, we can explore patterns, gain insight into difficulties, build resilience and develop greater self-compassion.
My style is warm, down-to-earth and compassionate. I work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, helping you make sense of your experiences and move towards a life that feels more manageable, fulfilling and authentic.
Practice description
I am an integrative psychotherapist and accredited EMDR therapist working with adults aged 18 and over. I offer both counselling and EMDR therapy, depending on your needs and preferences.
I work with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, grief, relationship difficulties, panic attacks and life transitions. I have a particular interest in trauma and regularly work with clients experiencing the effects of childhood adversity, complex trauma (CPTSD), PTSD, abuse, neglect and other distressing life experiences.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that can help reduce the impact of traumatic or distressing memories. It can also be effective for difficulties such as phobias, health anxiety, performance anxiety and negative self-beliefs.
I have experience working within both the private and charitable sectors and support clients with a wide range of presentations and levels of complexity. Sessions are available in person in Stornoway and online throughout the UK. I offer both short-term and longer-term therapy, depending on your individual needs and goals.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation before arranging a first appointment. This gives us an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy, explore whether I am the right therapist for your needs, and answer any questions you may have about the therapeutic process.
Prior to our first session, I will ask you to complete a counselling agreement and provide some basic information about yourself. During our initial appointment, we will explore your reasons for seeking therapy, discuss your goals, and gather relevant background information to help me understand your experiences and current difficulties.
If you are seeking EMDR therapy, the first few sessions will focus on assessment, history-taking and developing appropriate coping strategies before any trauma processing begins. This helps ensure that therapy progresses safely and at a pace that feels manageable for you.
The first session is also an opportunity for you to decide whether you feel comfortable working with me. Finding the right therapeutic relationship is important, and there is no obligation to continue if you feel another therapist may be a better fit.
My standard session fee applies to the first appointment and all subsequent sessions.
