About me and my therapy practice

My name is Pete Tobias. I am a neurodivergent ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited counsellor and EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner offering online therapy to adults aged 18+ across the UK and internationally, with in-person sessions also available in London Bridge, SE1.

My specialism is EMDR therapy.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a NICE-recommended, evidence-based therapy that works differently to traditional talking therapy. Rather than requiring you to describe or analyse difficult experiences in detail, EMDR works directly with how distressing memories are stored in your brain and body — helping experiences that have become stuck to be processed and integrated in a new, less distressing way. It is particularly effective for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, complex PTSD, and the lasting effects of difficult relationships and childhood experiences.

I offer online EMDR sessions via secure encrypted video — available to clients across the UK and internationally. All you need is a laptop or tablet and a private space.

I work integratively, drawing on a range of approaches tailored to your unique needs. As human beings we are diverse and complex — there is no single approach that works for everyone, and I believe therapy should always be shaped around the individual rather than the other way around.

Within this flexible and personalised approach, you can expect:

  • Mutual trust, respect and confidentiality
  • Shared decision-making and agreement on the goals of therapy
  • The freedom to share any negative emotional responses, thoughts and feelings
  • A co-constructed space in which you feel comfortable experiencing and sharing difficult emotions.
  • A caring space to explore difficult, traumatic and painful relationships, feelings or events
  • Knowledge and expertise in working with physical trauma responses held in the body

Please get in touch to arrange a free 15-minute consultation — an opportunity to ask any questions and get a sense of what it might be like to work together.

Practice description

My approach to EMDR is carefully paced and relational. Central to how I work is building safety and trust before any processing begins — taking the time to understand the root and core of what has brought you to therapy, and ensuring you feel genuinely resourced and prepared before we move into the deeper work.

As a neurodivergent practitioner, I bring a particular understanding of how neurodivergence intersects with trauma, identity, and the therapeutic process. I welcome clients from all backgrounds, cultures, and identities, and work hard to create a space where difference is honoured rather than pathologised.

I have particular experience working with:

Complex PTSD and relational trauma

Childhood neglect and emotional abuse

Anxiety, shame, and low self-worth

Neurodivergence and identity

Grief and loss

Intrusive thoughts and flashbacks

Patterns that feel stuck despite previous therapy

If you have tried other approaches and felt they didn't quite reach the root of things, EMDR may offer something different. Many of my clients come to me having already spent time in talking therapy — and find that EMDR reaches places that conversation alone couldn't.

A free 15-minute consultation is available to explore whether we might be a good fit.

My first session

It is completely natural to feel a sense of apprehension, fear, anxiety, or discomfort before starting therapy. Our first session will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the process and my way of working. It will also be an opportunity for you to share some of the struggles or difficulties that you want to explore. This will help us set goals, expectations, and help us create our roadmap toward growth and healing.

Importantly, the first session is your opportunity to get a sense of whether or not you are comfortable in undertaking this journey with me as your therapist. You should feel at ease going on this journey of growth and self-discovery with someone you can grow to trust.

Therapy can be short-term or long-term depending on your needs. All sessions are 50 minutes and conducted online or in my therapy room located in South East London (London Bridge/ Borough).
