About me and my therapy practice
You matter, and so does what you are struggling with.
Whether you are a high-functioning professional, a retiree, or a young adult finding your way, you may feel that your struggles aren’t "bad enough" to deserve space. I am here to tell you that if something is affecting your wellbeing, it is significant.
Are you held back by constant worry, racing "what if" thoughts or stress which gets in the way of being able to function?
Have a you a history of adverse experiences which may be affecting your ability to trust or be close in relationships?
Perhaps you don't feel listened to or understood and question whether you have value or importance?
Or maybe you constantly apologise and please others by discounting your own needs in favour of those around you?
I am empathetic, I am curious about who you are and I will also challenge you to explore and be curious about yourself. We shall work collaboratively to understand and unravel what is going on and find ways to move forward.
I may include a little psycho-education in my sessions which can be beneficial in helping you understand why you might think, feel and do the things you do. Sometimes we may use objects, timelines, or other creative tools to explore from a more detached perspective.
Therapy can be enlightening, life changing and tough so I encourage you to find a therapist who you will feel able to share yourself with.
You will have a safe, confidential and regular space to be listened to, where you can talk freely, without having to worry about judgement, criticism or shame. Some find that being the focus of attention is disconcerting but many find it liberating too especially when they feel unburdened and heard.
I am an approved therapist for Anxiety UK and have Professional Accreditation with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).
Practice description
I offer one to one counselling from a dedicated space in my home located in the heart of Faversham.
Sessions last 50 minutes and take place at the same time and initially, every week.
After 4-6 weeks we have a short review where we discuss the direction of therapy, frequency of sessions and anticipated total number of sessions needed. This is reviewed again at regular intervals.
My first session
This is an opportunity for you to tell me your story and talk about what has brought you to counselling, why now and what you would like to get out of therapy and your expectations.
The first session is about 10 minutes longer than usual so that we can cover a bit of admin to include our therapy contract, safeguarding, confidentiality and how therapy works.
I shall listen and question to clarify and gain the necessary information to complete an assessment about your situation and make sure I am understanding you, that you feel understood and that we can work together.
It is when we begin to establish our therapeutic relationship and make sure we can work with one another.
