About me and my therapy practice
Is life an uphill battle? Are you taking one step forward, two steps back? In the aftermath of trauma, daily life can be exhausting and oppressive
My name's Janine and I support people to heal and move forward after traumatic or deeply stressful life events. Whether you have experienced a single-incident trauma, a series of difficult life experiences or long-term complex trauma, I can help you to process what happened and reclaim your life.
Trauma can leave you feeling confused, overwhelmed and disconnected from yourself and others. Nightmares, flashbacks and panic attacks may surface as your mind and body struggle tirelessly to process the memory. Relationships suffer. Depression can take hold. Everyday tasks may feel heavier than they should. Thoughts and emotions become chaotic and unpredictable. You feel like you are losing control.
It might feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. But there is light, and I can help you find it.
I provide EMDR Therapy and trauma-focused counselling with a specialist interest in helping people who live with symptoms of PTSD, anxiety and depression. In our early sessions you will learn practical emotional regulation and grounding skills for managing unhelpful thought patterns and unwanted reactions. I will guide you in developing gentle, effective way of responding to triggers that lessen their future power, helping you rebuild confidence in your ability to cope. Clients often notice early improvements such as feeling more grounded, sleeping better and reconnecting more positively in their relationships after just a few sessions of trauma-focused therapy.
Counselling for trauma and EMDR therapy can be combined to accelerate healing and create lasting change. EMDR facilitates alleviation of symptoms at their root cause and is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE guideline NG116) for the treatment of PTSD, giving you a proven, evidence‑based pathway forward.

My first session
We will begin with a 60-minute online consultation. During this session we will review your concerns or symptoms and clarify your goals for therapy. You can also ask any questions about my way of working and the counselling process. The cost of this appointment is £80 payable at the time of booking, there is no obligation to book further sessions.
Ahead of our initial consultation I will ask you to complete and return two short tick-box questionnaires. These help me get a fuller picture of your background and how you've been feeling recently, so we can make the most of our time together right from the start.
The first is the ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) survey. This asks about certain types of difficult experiences that may have occurred during childhood — things like stress in the home, loss, or experiences of harm. Research has shown that these early experiences can shape how we feel, think, and cope as adults, often in ways we're not fully aware of.
The second is the GAD-7 and PHQ-9, a brief questionnaire about symptoms of anxiety and depression. These give me a useful snapshot of your current emotional wellbeing and help me get a clear picture of how symptoms may be affecting your day-to-day life right now.
I also request that you complete and return a Personal Information Record form before your first session. This information is required for insurance purposes and is kept strictly confidential.
