About me and my therapy practice
Life can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed, disconnected or unsure of how to move forward. Whether you're navigating the effects of trauma, addiction recovery, anxiety, grief or significant life changes, you don't have to face them alone.
I offer a calm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can explore your experiences safely, at a pace that feels right for you. My approach is trauma-informed and person-centred, recognising that every person's story is unique and that meaningful change happens when we begin to understand ourselves with greater compassion.
Alongside Person Centred Therapy, I draw upon CBT where it is helpful, adapting therapy to meet your individual needs. Together we can make sense of how past experiences may still be influencing the present, strengthen emotional resilience and support you in reconnecting with yourself.
My background spans more than 20 years within the social care sector, supporting adults through a wide range of life experiences. Alongside my counselling practice, I have extensive experience working with people in addiction recovery, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and the lasting impact of adverse life experiences.
I believe therapy should feel collaborative rather than overwhelming. My role is to walk alongside you as we explore your experiences, recognise your strengths and work towards meaningful change.
Practice description
Beginning counselling can feel like a significant step, and it's natural to feel uncertain about what to expect. My aim is to create a calm and supportive environment where you can feel comfortable exploring whatever has brought you to therapy.
Our first sessions are about getting to know you, understanding your experiences and exploring what you hope to gain from therapy. There is no expectation to share more than feels comfortable, and we will always work at a pace that feels right for you.
Some people come with a clear understanding of what they would like to explore, while others simply know that something doesn't feel right. Wherever you are in your journey, we can work together to make sense of your experiences and identify what may be keeping you from moving forward.
As therapy develops, I may introduce CBT techniques where they compliment our work, helping you understand patterns of thinking, emotions and behaviour, while always remaining grounded in person-centred, trauma-informed approach.
My first session
I offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation before your first appointment. This gives us the opportunity to discuss what has brought you to counselling, answer any questions you may have and explore whether my approach feels like the right fit for you.
Your first counselling session is designed to help you feel comfortable and begin building our therapeutic relationship. We'll go through our counselling agreement together, complete an initial assessment and explore what has brought you to therapy. There is no expectation to share everything straight away - we will work at a pace that feels safe and right for you.
The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask about counselling, how I work, or anything else that may help you feel more at ease before we continue working together.
