About me and my therapy practice
Are you finding life challenging, confusing or difficult and are needing a highly experienced, warm and compassionate counsellor to come alongside and help you find a way through? If so you need look no further!
I firmly believe that we all have a fundamental need to feel listened to, accepted, valued and understood. Sadly often in life we don't experience these things and end up feeling misunderstood, judged, confused and alone. Even if we do have supportive family and friends, it can be hard to be fully open with them as we fear hurting, upsetting or burdening them. Perhaps you can relate to some or all of these feelings?
As a Person Centred Counsellor, I can provide a warm, accepting and confidential place for you to express how you truly feel and explore the challenges you face. These may include concerns about the future, relational difficulties, experiences of loss and grief, work or health related issues, depression, anxiety, low self esteem or anything else that is concerning you.
Through actively listening and helping you to uncover the feelings and issues that lie beneath what is troubling you, we can go at your pace to find a way forward that is right for you and help you to find greater peace and fulfilment.
My clients often comment on my empathy, warmth and compassion and the difference that counselling has made to their lives. Here is a recent testimonial from one of my long term clients...
"Having slipped back into a state of low mood and feeling upset about relationships, that session was enough to put me back on track. Over the next few hours I was able to regain that content and grounded feeling, of being enough in myself, I've started to experience in the past months, for the first time in my life really."(current client in her early 60s.)
Please do contact me by email with any further questions you might have about counselling with me and/or to arrange an initial phone call or first session. I would love to hear from you!
Practice description
My face to face sessions take place in a choice of two convenient locations within Shrewsbury town centre. One is in a spacious and beautifully furnished room just off the High Street. This room is used purely as a therapeutic space and provides a peaceful and welcoming place for me to meet with you. The other is in the fully accessible Roy Fletcher Centre where there are a range of pleasant and well appointed counselling rooms available to suit your individual needs. Both locations are within easy walking distance of a range of town centre carparks and the bus and train stations.
For my online work I have a quiet and private room at the back of my house where I meet clients using zoom video conferencing.
I am practiced in working with clients with a whole range of differing needs and concerns and whether counselling online or face to face, I meet each person and situation with warmth, understanding and empathy.
My first session
In your first session with me, there will be an opportunity for you to explore what counselling is and ask any questions you might have. I will explain why counselling is helpful and give time for you to begin to share the issues and concerns you have. I will listen warmly and attentively and do all I can to put you at your ease.
During this initial session you will be able to see how it feels talking with me about the issues you face and then be able to make an informed decision as to whether you feel counselling with me is something that you would like to pursue further. There is no obligation to continue after the initial session but there will be an opportunity to set up further sessions if that is what you would like. Most clients tend to remain in counselling with me for anything between 6 sessions and 12 months, depending on what they feel they need but I also have a good number of returning clients and longer term ones (2-3 years in counselling). There is no fixed time frame and we will go at your pace.
