About me and my therapy practice

Holding it together on the outside. Not coping inside. If this sounds like you, then you're in the right place.

Something is getting in the way of you living the life you want. Tricky relationship patterns; the impact of past experiences; feeling on edge in certain situations; strong reactions to seemingly benign situations: all of these might be holding you back. You've done a lot to try and figure it out yourself - now feels like the right time to get some support.

I'm Jo, an integrative psychotherapist and EMDR practitioner. I'm here to help you move past whatever is holding you back.

Why you might be here:

  • You've always been pretty self-sufficient, competent, able to manage things. Lately, though, you've been struggling.
  • You've been holding a lot, for a long time - holding it together - but you're worried you might finally be about to fall apart.
  • You're having strong emotional reactions to interactions with people or situations - flare-ups - that are making things worse at home or at work.
  • You're struggling to set boundaries in important relationships, to say what you want and need.
  • You feel on edge a lot of the time, scanning for problems or difficulties, wanting to feel in control of things you know you can't really control.
  • Seemingly benign things unexpectedly trigger strong reactions and send you spiralling: something on the TV, a throwaway comment from a friend, or a song on the radio.
  • You dread specific situations: an upcoming journey; an adult child leaving home; a meeting at work; or even just getting everyone out of the house in the morning. You don't know why, but these moments feel like they take over.
  • You feel a little stuck on how to move forward.

Whatever challenge you are facing, you're ready to overcome it.

Practice description

I bring together a unique combination of therapy approaches which allows me to adapt to my clients' needs as therapy progresses. I offer 1:1 integrative therapy and EMDR therapy.

Integrative therapy: I blend different approaches to adjust to my clients' needs: person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioural therapy. I am non-judgemental and supportive, and we are curious together to understand what is going on for you, and to find a way forward.

EMDR therapy was originally developed to work on PTSD and trauma, but has since been shown to be effective for a number of issues, including relationship issues, feeling triggered, phobias, and self-esteem. EMDR is scientifically proven and endorsed by the World Health Organisation, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, and the NHS.

Intensive integrative sessions focus on a specific issue and last 90 minutes. This may be helpful for clients who want to spend more time on a specific topic, or those who want a one-off session to work through something specific.

My clients often report that, as a result of our work together, they can be the person - friend, parent or partner - they want to be.

My first session

There are two main factors that predict success in therapy: you, and your relationship with your therapist. I offer a free 20-minute introductory call so that we can explore whether we would be a good fit.

If we decide to work together, we would usually have some sessions understanding the lay of the land: what is going on for you, and what you would like to change. After 2-3 sessions, I will suggest the approach which I think will be most helpful, and check that you are happy with that.

What I can help with

Abuse, Anxiety, Bereavement, Cancer, Cultural issues, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Menopause, Men's issues, OCD, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Service veterans, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Vegan allied, Women's issues, Work related issues

Types of therapy

CBT, EMDR, Humanistic, Person centred, Relational

Reduced-rate supervision spaces available now.

I currently offer limited supervision spaces at £50 per 90-minute session while I complete my Diploma in Counselling Supervision (until November 2026).

If this feels like a good fit and good timing, I’d love to hear from you: https://www.jolofthousetherapy.co.uk/clinical-supervision-for-therapists

About me and my therapy practice

If you're looking for integrative supervision that helps you think clearly about your client work, grow your confidence, and build a practice that feels sustainable, I might be the right fit for you. I offer warm, supportive, grounded and honest supervision for therapists and trainees who want something clinically useful, genuinely human, and rooted in real-world clinical and business experience.

Alongside supervision, I bring experience from building and running a successful private practice, as well as work in the Priory, hospice and college settings. I understand both the clinical depth of the work and the practical realities of creating a practice that works financially, emotionally and day to day. I also bring experience referring clients in and out of private and NHS services.

My approach is integrative, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT thinking, with awareness of models such as Transactional Analysis and IFS where helpful.

Bring your client work, stuck points, ethical dilemmas, uncertainty, or the parts of practice that feel heavy. We’ll make sense of them together with clarity, care and good judgement.

Therapists I have worked with often report leaving feeling clearer, more confident in their decisions, and better able to trust their own judgement.

If this sounds like what you’re looking for, I’d love to hear from you.

Practice description

We’ll look together at your client work - what’s happening in the relationship, where things feel stuck, and how to move forward.

We’ll also think about the wider picture of your practice: boundaries, caseload, pricing, sustainability, and how your work fits with the rest of your life.

We’ll cover the practical side too, including safeguarding, ethics, risk, and legal considerations where needed.

What you can expect:

  • A supportive, non-judgemental space where you can be honest about your work.
  • Clear, grounded thinking to help you make sense of client dynamics.
  • A strong focus on boundaries, ethics and good practice.
  • Gentle challenge where helpful.
  • Support to develop your own clinical judgement and confidence.
  • Space to think about your whole practice, not just individual clients.
  • Help to build a practice that is sustainable financially and emotionally.
  • Supervision that adapts to where you are in your practice and life.

My first session

We’ll start with a short introductory call to see if we’re a good fit and talk through what you’re looking for.

In the first session, we’ll look at your current work, agree how we’ll work together, and make sure everything feels clear and manageable from the start.

What I can help with

Abuse, Anxiety, Bereavement, Cancer, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Menopause, Men's issues, OCD, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Service veterans, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Stress, Trauma, Vegan allied, Women's issues, Work related issues
