Availability

I have some current availability Monday to Thursday 8 am to 6 pm.   I can accommodate the needs of shift workers.  I work from a comfortable garden room at the bottom of my garden, and online across the Uk and Europe.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a specialist adoption focussed and trained counsellor working with any adult affected by adoption.  You may be adopted yourself, have adopted children, have relinquished children, or be affected by Special Guardianship orders.

Adoptees:

I use my professional training to join you wherever on the adoption journey you are.  You may be navigating questions of identity, origin or belonging, perhaps you may have noticed some of your strategies to "feel better" are no longer working, or cause you worry.  Sometimes these particularly come up at points of change and transition in life.  You may be thinking about or managing contact or lack of contact with birth family, adopted family or others.  Experiencing a loss as an adult may also take you back to your adoption experience.

Couples:

I am also a couples counsellor and use this specialist training along side my adoption knowledge to work with couples where 1 or both partners are affected by adoption.  I work with the awareness of the impact of early life separations helping both parties communicate and develop empathy for the position of the other, promoting healthy relationships.

Birth parents:

I work with individuals and couples who have relinquished children working alongside you, at your pace to manage your feelings and emotions and deal with future challenges using healthy coping strategies.

Practice description

I have significant experience working within social care and as a counsellor. I trained as an integrative counsellor, and can adjust my way of working to meet what you identify you want to work on.   I have also completed the recommended Barnardo's specialist training to work with clients who are affected by adoption and can offer this specialism alongside and within my person centred and relational work.

I am interested in relationships because  they affect our physical and mental health, and often work with clients on difficulties they experience in relating to and managing their responses to others. I can use interventions such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help clients manage and process difficult emotions safely which promotes healthy coping strategies.

Some clients struggle with self soothing behaviours to cope with their thoughts and feelings about their past. I work with clients to recognise triggers and find healthy, safe ways to manage their feelings.

My first session

I offer anyone curious about counselling a free, no obligation chat on the phone or online on Zoom to talk about counselling. If you decide to go ahead we then set up an assessment, either in person or online- some clients prefer to work face to face, others online, and many prefer a mix of the two. We talk about what you want to bring to counselling, and your goals which we review after 4-6 sessions. You manage the pace of the work and each session is led by you.

I offer counselling sessions for  individuals over 18  and couples,  both face to face from a comfortable garden room and online via Zoom.  I also work with adults affected by adoption issues.  You don鈥檛 have to try and cope alone.  We live in a challenging world which places additional strain on people and relationships and seeking help can be a positive experience with potential long term gains. Please do contact me to talk about how I may be able to help.

I currently have availability for both individuals and couples and work flexibly. I can accommodate the needs of shift workers.

About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to my counselling practice.  Are you feeling overwhelmed by life events, or are there recurring problems in your relationships which are causing you stress? Do you feel you have lost your sense of who you are? Perhaps you feel you are pre occupied with the past or the future and feel unable to fully engage with your life?

Counselling offers the opportunity to talk confidentially to a trained counsellor who will accept and support you as you find your way forward. Life can sometimes feel very challenging and we can feel overwhelmed. It can happen gradually or there may be a sudden event when we realise our usual coping skills are not working as well as they have and we feel 鈥渟tuck鈥. Counselling can help to look at what is going on, perhaps to understand things or maybe to look at our responses in a different way. You may want to explore your emotions and feelings about events in the past or explore a current issue or relationship. Through greater awareness and clarity it is my hope that you may experience an improved sense of wellbeing leading to the possibility of change.

I can provide both short and long term work, depending on your needs and wishes.  I conduct regular reviews to ensure we are working on the areas you identify as important.

My fees are 拢60 for 50 minutes for individuals and 拢80 for 60 minutes for couples.

Practice description

I have experience of working with a broad range of issues, and my approach to counselling is integrative, which means that I am trained in a number of therapeutic approaches and can tailor counselling to meet your individual needs.

I have undertaken additional training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, a highly effective approach for understanding and managing intense emotions.

In addition to individual therapy I specialise in relational issues and hold a Diploma in Relationship Counselling from Relate. I work with both individuals and couples on relationship issues. I have also undertaken specialist Bereavement Counselling training to work with this specific type of loss.

I am also a qualified Adoption Support Counsellor, having completed a certificate with Barnardo's and The Albany Centre.  This means I am trained to work with adults affected by adoption or special guardianship in England.  For more information please visit my website.

Before becoming a counsellor I spent over 20 years supporting children and families within statutory social care, at times of significant stress. My background includes counselling trauma survivors at a Women's Centre, working within a community counselling service, and volunteering for Frontline 19 during the Covid-19 pandemic to support frontline workers.

My first session

I offer a free no obligation 20 minutes telephone or Zoom conversation to discuss what brings you to counselling and to see if we might work together.  If you decide to proceed with counselling I then offer you an overview of working therapeutically, and we discuss the way forward in terms of mutual availability.  I complete an assessment so we can work collaboratively on the goals you set and number of sessions you wish to attend.

In addition to my private practice I am qualified and offer clinical supervision to counsellors.  I work face to face from a garden room and online via Zoom and Teams.  I currently have availability for supervision and work flexibly.

About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to my supervision practice.  I am a qualified and  experienced supervisor, passionate about supporting individual counsellors in creating a reflective and growth focused space for the vital and often challenging work we do with clients.

My aim to provide a safe collaborative space where we can explore your work together, always keeping the client's needs at the forefront of our discussions.  I work alongside you to support your practice, facilitate reflection on your learning, and help you meet your developmental goals.  My approach primarily draws on  Hawkins' 7 eyed model which serves as a systemic lens to examine the various dynamics in client work within an ethical framework that respects the values of counselling.

I have extensive experience in addition to private practice of supervising health and wellbeing coaches, social prescribers, volunteers and behaviour change practitioners (working in the field of criminal justice).  I also provide clinical supervision within the counselling service for the NHS.

I conduct regular reviews to ensure that supervision is meeting your needs.

My fees are 拢60 for 1 hour or 拢90 for 1.5 hours monthly supervision.  I also work with trainee counsellors and can provide "top up" supervision for counsellors on placement.
