About me and my therapy practice

Life always throws us difficult stuff to deal with; it wouldn’t be life without it. Sometimes we can shrug these things off, yet at other times they can have an extremely debilitating effect upon us. Sometimes things happen and we bury them, they remain hidden but still exert a force upon us and our behaviour. They can influence us in ways that we would rather they didn’t. Sometimes these things come roaring back at us, out of the blue, unbidden and unwelcome. We all pass through stages in our life where we question everything around us, our relationships, our work, our behaviour and ultimately ourselves. Sometimes we want to understand these feelings, where they come from, why we are having them and why they make us so unhappy. Can we change the way we feel, can we make sense of the external factors affecting us, can we change our behaviour and are there any answers?

At Level Counselling I provide a space for you to look at these questions and feelings. A place to hold these dilemmas up to the light and examine them. A safe place for you to explore yourself and what may ail you. I have a lovely counselling room at the Seed Factory in Aller. The venue is warm, comfy and discrete and there is ample parking.

Practice description

I am a fully qualified counsellor working with all adults (18 plus). I have a background in HM forces and the commercial world. I am also trained as a Samaritan. I am an Integrative Counsellor. Integrative counselling is a combined approach to psychotherapy that brings together different elements of specific therapies. I take the view that different clients need different approaches in varying situations. Each person needs to be considered as a whole, and counselling techniques must be tailored to their individual needs and personal circumstances.

I am also an EMDR practicioner

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy that helps your brain "unstick" and properly process traumatic memories. Instead of extensive talking, it uses side-to-side eye movements  to help your brain re-file painful memories so they no longer cause distress in the present.

Intense emotional charges fade, allowing you to link the memory to a more logical, positive belief about yourself.

My first session

The first session is free. We can take the time to examine what counselling entails, what to expect from it and look at the process. It gives you chance to experience what therapy might be like. As the client you can look at me and my practice and I, as the therapist can ensure that I am the right person to help you. During, at the end or after this first session you can decide if you would like to continue. The process is entirely non obligatory.
