About me and my therapy practice

I think we sometimes come to therapy not knowing exactly what it is that's causing us pain. Maybe we feel fear, anger, confusion or just a sense of detachment from who we feel we used to be or could be; sometimes it is only symptoms (such as addictions, eating disorders, OCD) which we can identify and feelings are inaccessible- this is very common too. You might be experiencing family or work issues or maybe you’re in grief not just from a death but any significant change. Whatever your reason for wanting therapy I know that, ultimately, we want to feel better than we do right now. And, I know that this is completely possible. 

Practice description

Making sense of feelings is challenging and, having been through it myself, I know it can be really difficult. But, by working with me, change will happen, resulting in an alleviation of pain/symptoms and better relationships.
I will help you by exploring your past and present life in order to identify and better understand current difficulties. I will listen, a lot. I will be real, honest, challenging and kind. We will also utilise our relationship, our interactions, to give us insight into your other relationships and that with yourself.
Part of the work might be verbal retelling of events/feelings and processing, some might be exploring what your body is saying to you/ us with somatic attuning, some might be getting creative with roleplay, chair work, imagination, writing. We will create the work as the work/ relationship develops but creativity with self is at the centre. Therapy shouldn’t be boring, it should be alive, even if sometimes difficult.  

I offer 3 therapeutic frameworks-
1) Short term (12 session minimum) 
2) Long term/ open ended  
3) Single event process- this is usually for people who have had therapy before, but who want to delve deeply into one, specific event in order to process and heal. This involves a limited set of regular extended length  (75-90 minute) sessions over a shorter time frame- 4-6 weeks- for a set fee.

My first session

My first session differs from subsequent ones in that I’ll be asking a lot of questions in the form of an assessment. Talking about the past- family, friends, schooling, work, important events or traumas and your mental health history. We may get through this is the first session but we also might need more time if certain issues are expanded on. I have found that allowing the assessment to take as much time as needed aids the work that follows, an environment of taking the space and time that works for you.  

With the single event model I will send you an assessment before meeting which we will go over in the first session.
