About me and my therapy practice
If you’re feeling stuck, whether that’s in relationships, work or how you feel within yourself — you’re not alone.

I specialise in helping people make sense of these deeper patterns, so that change feels lasting — not just temporary relief.
I’m Richard, an accredited Psychodynamic Counsellor and registered Social Worker. Alongside my private practice, I’ve spent 20 years working in both statutory and third-sector services, including supporting care-experienced young adults.
What this means in practice is that I’m used to working with complex emotional experiences and being able to build the kind of trusting, steady relationship that allows real change to happen.
Practice description
My approach focuses on understanding why things feel the way they do — not just managing symptoms.
Together, we look at:
- Patterns in your relationships
- Emotional responses that feel difficult to control
- The underlying experiences that may be shaping how you feel now
While my work is grounded in psychodynamic therapy, I keep the process focused and practical. Many clients begin to notice meaningful shifts within a relatively short period of time.
My first session
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re unsure whether it will be helpful.
I offer an initial session where you can get a sense of how I work and whether you feel comfortable speaking with me.
If at the end of that first session you feel I’m not the right fit, there is no charge.
 If you decide to continue, the session is charged as normal.
This is simply to give you space to explore things without worrying about committing to the wrong therapist.
I also work alongside my dog, Indie, who is calm, gentle and used to being in the therapy space.
Some clients find that having Indie present helps them feel more at ease, particularly when discussing difficult or emotional topics.
If you would prefer a session without a dog, that is absolutely no problem — this is entirely your choice.
