About me and my therapy practice

We all have moments in our lives when we feel stuck and see a need for a change. Therapy provides a safe space in which we can look at and make sense of how things are now, before exploring ways to change them in the future. The issues which bring you to therapy may be long-term difficulties or recent incidents which cause problems in your relationships, sense of fulfilment at work or with your general well-being. You may also feel that you are searching to attain your full potential and would like to explore ways to achieve this. This provides the basic framework for us to work together at which our therapeutic relationship is the centre.

About Me

I am an experienced and accredited Psychotherapist based in Southend who work with both adults and couples. I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (ÌÇÐĹÙÍø). I hold a Post-Graduate Diploma from the University of East London in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also DBS checked to an enhanced level.

Practice description

My Practice

I offer therapy for both individuals and couples, primarily blending Person-Centred and Psychodynamic approaches. This means focusing closely on your present experience, while occasionally exploring the past to illuminate current difficulties. Because much of our mental life operates unconsciously, we often repeat familiar patterns that quietly obstruct healthy relationships. Do you find yourself locked in the same arguments, making similar mistakes, or drawn into recurring situations? Therapy offers a safe space to bring these hidden drivers into conscious awareness. We will also gently explore observations that naturally arise within our therapeutic relationship itself.

It is a talking therapy but sometimes I may introduce other therapies such as arts and CBT.

At the core of this work, I will treat you with compassion and honesty within a non-judgmental environment, allowing us to collaboratively and fully explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, confidential space. For example, we can examine how you may have developed certain beliefs, how these affect you today, and the options for change.

Experience

I have over 2,700 hours of clinical experience. Alongside private practice, I worked for many years within NGOs and charity sectors such as Women's Trust, Hackney Chinese Community Centre and Hestia. I have worked extensively with people who are struggling with the following issues:

• Anxiety

• Depression

• Panic attacks

• Low self-esteem

• Trauma / PTSD

• OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

• Eating disorder

• Self-harm and suicidal thoughts

• Survivors of domestic/sexual abuse

• Bereavement and loss (including relationship break-down)

• Family / Relationship issues

• LGBTI, cultural and sexual identity

My first session

Introductory session

I will offer a 10-15 minutes free introductory consultation either via telephone, online or face-to-face. This session is an opportunity for us to be introduced and we can talk through queries you might have about therapy, or the way I work. Following our conversation there is no commitment for you to book any further sessions with me, I understand how important finding the right therapist is. If you would like to begin working together we will book in our first session at this point.

Beginning Therapy

Our first 90 minute session will be slightly different from the rest of therapy. Normally, I will follow your lead but in this first session, I’ll take the lead to ask you questions. The aim is to explore what brings you to therapy and if it makes sense for us to work together. You can ask any questions and if you would like to work together we will agree a rough plan of what that will look like.

We will arrange a weekly day and time for our sessions, which will always last 50 minutes.

Number of Sessions

The number of sessions you have is entirely up to you, although I tend to work long term. Some people find that they have achieved what they wanted after a few sessions whereas others will want to engage in longer-term work, depending on the nature of the issues bringing you to therapy.

I offer face-to-face therapy in Southend and online sessions via Zoom.
