About me and my therapy practice
You may be starting to feel the cost of always putting others first — second-guessing yourself, holding things in, or finding it difficult to say what you need.
Over time, this can become tiring, especially when the ways you’ve previously managed no longer work in the way you need them to.
You may notice it’s difficult to say no, or that you worry about upsetting others. You might find yourself trying to keep things steady in your relationships, even when something doesn’t feel right. Changing that can feel complicated, especially when it brings up guilt or self-doubt.
Often, these patterns have roots in earlier relationships where feeling heard, supported, or safe wasn’t consistent. What helped you manage at the time can continue long after, shaping how you relate to yourself and others now.
In my work, I aim to offer a calm and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgement or feeling that you need to protect others from how you feel.
Finding the right counsellor is important. Therapy works best when there is a sense of safety, trust, and connection, and I see the therapeutic relationship as an important part of the process.
Rather than focusing on quick fixes, we take time to understand what’s happening underneath the surface and begin to make space for you — to reconnect with your needs, develop self-trust, and find ways of expressing yourself that feel clearer and more your own.
I also have experience working with neurodivergence and understand how important it can be to work in ways that feel accessible, individual, and not based on assumptions.

Practice description
Starting therapy can feel uncertain, especially if you’re used to managing things on your own or have had experiences where you didn’t feel fully heard or understood.
I offer both in-person and online sessions, depending on what feels most comfortable and manageable for you. My practice space is private and consistent, which allows me to pay attention to things like lighting, noise, and the overall environment so that sessions feel as calm and supportive as possible.
In our first sessions, there’s no expectation for you to have everything worked out or to explain things perfectly. We take time to understand what has brought you to therapy and what you hope might begin to feel different.
Often, the ways we cope have developed for important reasons. They may have helped you avoid conflict, feel accepted, stay emotionally safe, or manage difficult relationships.
As these patterns begin to make more sense, it’s not unusual for anxiety or uncertainty to increase. There can be a growing awareness that something needs to change, alongside a fear of letting go of ways of coping that once felt necessary or protective.
Part of therapy can involve gently exploring this conflict — making space for both the part of you that wants something different, and the part that has worked hard to keep you safe.
Over time, things can begin to feel a little less heavy. You may notice more space for yourself, more awareness of what you need, and a growing ability to respond to life in ways that feel clearer and more manageable.
This isn’t about becoming a different person or getting everything right. It’s about beginning to relate to yourself with more understanding, kindness, and trust, rather than feeling driven only by fear, criticism, or the need to survive.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting — we can take this one step at a time.

What to Expect From Your First Session
Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re used to managing things on your own or are unsure what to expect from the process.
I offer a free 30-minute introductory session where we can begin to get a sense of whether working together feels right for you. This is a space for you to talk a little about what has brought you to therapy, ask any questions you may have, and get a feel for how I work.
There’s no expectation for you to explain everything perfectly or know exactly where to begin. We take things at a pace that feels manageable for you.
If you decide you would like to continue after the introductory session, full sessions last 50 minutes.
Face-to-face sessions take place in my counselling room at CityLab in Lancaster. I also offer online and telephone sessions, and have significant experience of working remotely with clients.
You’re welcome to get in touch by email, phone call, or text message. I may not always be able to respond immediately, but I will get back to you as soon as I can.
