About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Alyson. I am a person-centred counsellor and I work mainly with women and neurodivergent adults. Alongside my private practice, I do a lot of work with women who have experienced sexual violence and historic abuse. My approach is always trauma-informed, which means that your comfort and autonomy are fundamental, and we go at your pace. I also work in the charity sector counselling neurodivergent adults. My understanding and experience of ADHD and autism is extensive, but I am finding that my work tends to focus in particular on late diagnosis, masking and burnout. There is often an overlap with relational trauma, or the added dimension of parenting neurodivergent children.

I worked as a trainee and for many years with unpaid carers, particularly those caring for a child with special educational or complex needs, or for a family member with dementia. I have also worked with boarding school survivors and the long-term psychological impact of this early attachment rupture.

I meet my clients with openness and compassion, and I am skilled at noticing patterns and making connections. This can help to reframe narratives and bring clarity, allowing something to shift so that you feel less overwhelmed and better able to move forward with your life.

Prior to my therapeutic training, I worked as an English language teacher abroad and with families seeking asylum in the UK. I explored cross-cultural counselling as my diploma research topic and qualified as a psychotherapeutic counsellor in 2020.

I am a white British woman of mixed European heritage and use the pronouns she/her. I work in accordance with ÌÇÐĹÙÍø's ethical framework and receive monthly clinical supervision, and I regularly access peer support and ongoing professional training.
