About me and my therapy practice
My aim as a Therapeutic Counsellor is to provide you with a warm, safe and non-judgemental space where you can explore your world moving toward a deeper understanding of your self.
I hope to form a unique, professional therapeutic relationship with you, offering tools that can enable you to gain insight into your situation, fostering positive personal growth.
It is normal from time to time to feel that life has become a struggle. I hope to support you in making sense of things, improving interactions and inviting healthy change.
I will support you in unpacking your past experiences, therefore, lightening your load and helping you to find your own unique answers, because, with qualifications and experience in multiple models of therapy, I will offer tried and tested strategies to support your management of anxiety and depression. I will offer the warmth and safety required to enable you to unburden trauma and negative life experiences that are keeping you stuck.
Initially, I will offer you a free telephone call by way of introducing myself, explaining how I work and assessing your counselling needs.
There is no obligation to go on to meet with me for counselling, it is important to choose your most relatable counsellor. The counselling journey has difficult obstacles and many hard to access positive gains. But I can journey alongside you, offering safe harbour, support and encouragement.
It is my experience that the journey, whilst requiring effort and commitment, is well worth it.
I am steadfast in my commitment and dedication to deliver competent therapy.
Practice description
I practice from within a private, comfortable, safe and warm setting with off road parking in the Christchurch area.
I can work with you face to face, over the telephone, or remotely if you prefer.
I can also provide Walk-Talk sessions, weather permitting, where we can stroll a level, pleasant route close to my therapy room, and by the sea.
Walk-Talk sessions take place in the open reducing privacy and the route I offer takes approximately 40 minutes when reasonably paced.
These sessions combine therapy with all benefits of a walk in nature.
If the weather does not permit, we would revert back to the privacy of my therapy room.
My first session
I offer a free telephone call initially by way of introducing myself and discussing how I work in more detail.
This call generally takes between 15 and 30 minutes and is not a counselling session but rather to gather the necessary house keeping information and to explain the logistical process of our work together.
I do ask for some idea of what you consider to be your current problem, postponing going into more detail about this for when we meet. I prefer do this rolling assessment method to promote choice and empowering control for you in what, how, when, where and, indeed, with whom you unpack and unburden your unique experiences.
I want to promote your autonomy from the start of our work together.
If you like what you hear, during this call, we can then arrange our first counselling session at a mutually convenient time.
I will charge for this first session and any sessions that follow.
Following the initial free telephone call, I will confirm the agreed appointment, the cost of the counselling session, give you the address to attend, and attach a copy of my contract for your information via email.
My contract explains all you will need to know and I will have paper copies ready to sign when we meet. However, if you have any questions about my contact, or any aspect of my practice, I am happy to answer them at any time before we meet.
I do not mind being emailed or messaged between sessions but will adhere to strict boundaries to reply only during my working hours.
Our relationship will be a unique professional one where you feel trust and empathy within the safety my support.
