About me and my therapy practice
Hi. I'm Rose. I'm a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø and ACC registered counsellor and I support people in the South West and nationwide with a wide range of issues. I also specialise in sexual abuse, bereavement and parentification.
I can help you explore what you would like to talk about at your pace using a variety of counselling approaches to suit your needs, without judging. Clients tell me I am easy to talk to, calming and gentle.
Some people know exactly what they want to work on and others don’t know what they want to talk about, but know they are struggling and are not sure why. Unpicking it together can be really helpful.
Sessions last an hour and are usually weekly, but I am happy to work fortnightly if this is your preference. I offer lower rates for people on low incomes and trainees.
Practice description
I work in a Person Centred way which means you choose how you would like to use the session. It is your time and I will be led by you. I am a naturally empathic person, so hope you will feel this from me. I will come alongside you without judgement, reflecting my understanding of what you are feeling, your thoughts and the sense you make of your experiences. Counselling is a process of exploring, unpacking and working together. I understand this can take some getting used to and that it can be daunting meeting a counsellor for the first time. I will do all I can to put you at ease and to help create safety as we get to know each other. I sometimes use psychoeducation to explain things such as how the nervous system has been affected by trauma and how we can calm it. I also use other counselling methods to adapt to you as an individual. We will have regular opportunities for you to set and review goals, discuss how you are finding the counselling and if you would like to continue. Some people come for a long time, others for a short time. Again this is your choice. My clients often find that they become more self compassionate, confident and have a stronger sense of self.
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute phone call. This is a (no obligation) chance for you to get a feel for how it would be to work with me. You can ask any questions you may have. I will ask you what has brought you to look for counselling at this time and what your hopes are. I will explain how I work and ask you some questions so I get a better picture of your needs. You can then take time to think about whether you would like to work with me and if so, we can book a first session when you are ready. Some people prefer to book a first session and not have the free phone call. This is entirely your choice.
