About me and my therapy practice
Hi
Thank you so much for arriving on my page :-)
About me
My name Donna and I am a registered counsellor running my own Private Practice called Through the Trees Counselling. I absolutely love my role as a counsellor. Why? Because I love supporting people to be the best versions of themselves and I hope that I can help you too. I feel very privileged to work as a counsellor and to see clients be able to grow and move forward in their lives where they may have thought it was not possible.
I work with teenagers and adults encountering a wide range of concerns including, anxiety, health anxiety, depression, men's issues, intrusive/negative thinking, relationships -financial, emotional & psychological abuse, peer / exam pressure and or bullying at school or in the workplace, self-esteem, self-harm, addiction - drugs, gambling, alcohol, stress, confidence, bereavement, past and present trauma.
I am under no illusion that it takes a great deal of courage to ask for help at times in our lives. I have been at that point myself. I remember my own personal journey and going into therapy in my thirty’s. I did not know what to expect. I did not have a clue where to start during my first session but looking back, it was the best decision I ever made.
Sometimes you just need someone to just 'listen' and feel what its like to 'walk in your shoes'. Each one of us are going through a different journey and sometimes it can be quite a bumpy along the way. It is not always easy reaching out to someone you know or even love. Even our closest are sometimes unable to help us, not because they do not care, they just do not know how to help.
A little bit more about my background
I have over 12 years experience working for a mental health charity. I support people who have been diagnosed from mild to acute mental health conditions to live an independent life as is possible for them.
I feel privileged to work in both fields and have been able to work with so many wonderful clients.

Practice description
How I can help you :-)
I will not be advising you what's best for you as you may have had advice given to you in the past by friends or family and it has not helped or even what you may not have wanted. I will, however, be there to guide you and facilitate your own self growth, as you will discover, in time, that you have all the answers you need as you know yourself best.
We will be able to discuss during your initial call, most importantly, what you are or have been experiencing and discussing what you are hoping to gain from counselling and what goals you would like to reach.
My counselling style
One counselling approach does not fit all. I am fortunate that I have been trained in several different counselling modalities which enables me to tailor the session to your specific, individual needs. Clients have said to me 'Donna I feel better but I’m not sure why' or 'I feel so much stronger in myself and am more self-aware'. My response is always the same thing, 'counselling is an amazing process and you just have to trust it'.
Working as an Integrative Counsellor means I can draw on several types of therapy to tailor the counselling approach specifically to your needs. This approach is more flexible and inclusive than more traditional, singular forms of treatment. Taking into consideration your unique needs, experiences and goals will enhance your treatment experience.
Each one of us are unique in our own way. Another person may be going through the same thing as you and yet that person may see things completely differently to you. Sometimes you just need someone to see the world as you see it and look through your lens.
I am here to listen to you and see your world as you see it. So, if you like what you have read, please call, text, or email me with any further questions.
Please feel free to read testimonials from past clients on google or on my website.
Thank you so much for reading my profile. 🙂
My first session
Once you have had your initial consultation and you feel happy, I will book you in for your first appointment.
I am completely aware that it can be quite scary and daunting coming for your first therapy session even if you have previously had counselling. I promise you that these feelings will quickly pass and you will feel a little lighter even after only your first session.
Your initial session will consist of me clarifying how we will work together making sure you understand everything about the service that I will be providing. This will then lead into your session.
At the end of your first session, I willl check in with you to see how you found the experience. You can either book another session before you leave or if you are not sure and just want to think about it, you can go away and just get back to me. Either way is completely fine.
My way of working is 'open ended' which means there is no set limit to your sessions. We will review together as we go along which is a really important aspect of my way of working. My aim is that my clients are always at the centre of their therapy.
Consistency is key at the beginning of therapy. I understand that not everyone is able to commit too weekly sessions whether albeit financially or just general life commitments. However, even with fortnightly sessions clients can still reap the benefits.
I am flexible on a session-to-session basis for example if one week you prefer face to face or the next time online. We can arrange this together.
I always explain to clients to think of therapy as 'self-care'. Its 50 minutes for you to just be you where you can guarantee that you will be listened too in a confidential and non judgemental space.
One more thing to bear in mind is that therapy unfortunately is not a quick fix. You may find that you only need 6 sessions or you may be someone that needs considerably more. Everyone is unique.
I look forward to meeting and working with you to help you be the best version of you.
Donna :-)
