About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Mike Ross - an experienced humanistic, trauma‑informed therapeutic counsellor, mentor, and coach.
My work is rooted in empathy, reflection and a genuine commitment to helping people understand their experiences and build meaningful, lasting resilience
I draw on meaning‑focused approaches to support clients in moving toward purpose, clarity and emotional wellbeing.
I’ve been a qualified therapeutic counsellor and a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (ÌÇÐĹÙÍø) since 2019.
In my work, I support individuals dealing with a wide range of challenges: substance dependence (including alcohol, cocaine, and prescription medication), anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, attachment issues, intrusive or suicidal thoughts and compulsive behaviours such as gambling, sex or shopping.
I also have significant experience working with neurodivergence—including ADHD, Autism, and AuDHD.
I’m passionate about helping neurodivergent clients understand their internal experiences, develop workable strategies, and cultivate greater self‑acceptance.
I’m always inspired by the resilience and insight that emerges through the therapeutic process.
At the heart of my practice is a commitment to authenticity and collaboration. I believe therapy works best when you feel genuinely seen and safe enough to explore what’s happening beneath the surface.
My approach weaves together therapeutic depth, meaning‑centred reflection, and practical tools you can integrate into your day‑to‑day life.
Whether you’re trying to overcome trauma, make sense of a difficult period, break entrenched patterns, or reconnect with your creative or personal purpose, I aim to walk alongside you with warmth, openness, and clarity.
I’m based in Brighton, UK where I offer in‑person sessions and I also work online with clients who prefer remote support or who live further afield.
If you’re looking for thoughtful, steady, and meaningful guidance through counselling, mentoring or coaching, I’d be glad to help.
Practice description
How Does It Work?
As counselling involves talking about sensitive issues and revealing personal thoughts and feelings, your counsellor should be qualified, experienced and a registered member of a proferssional body such as the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø or NCPS.
In a counselling session you'll be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions. A therapist should listen and support you without judging or criticising.
Therapy can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, and find your own solutions to problems.
It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress, but you should gradually start to feel better with the right help and support.
Confidentiality
Generally speaking, everything spoken about in counselling sessions is kept completely confidential, unless a serious crime is disclosed or there is a risk of serious of harm being caused.
These occurrences are exceptionally rare and in most cases can be discussed and resolved within the session.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
Everyone is unique so will have different requirements, meaning some clients only need one session whereas others may decide to continue indefinitely.
There is no pressure or obligation to continue after the initial session if a client chooses choose not to.
Within the first session, or first few sessions, people often get a sense of what is best for them.
The work should be regularly reviewed to ensure clients are getting what they need.
My first session
My intitial consultations are held online via Google Meet or Zoom . They typically last 25-30 minutes and are free of charge. To arrange one, please send me an email
If we decide to work together after that initial consultation then the fee for an online 50 minute session is £60.
In-person counselling is also available at a cost of £75/session hosted in a comfortable, central Brighton, therapy space.
I offer discounts for student counsellors and clients on limited incomes as well as for block bookings of 10 or more sessions. Details on request.
