About me and my therapy practice
Overview
- Trained in person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and psychodynamic therapy.
- I split my time between private practice and working in psychological research.
- Over 10 years experience working with individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health issues and life distresses such as depression, bereavement, low self-esteem, trauma, childhood trauma, work stress, anxiety and relationship troubles.
- I offer short-term and open-ended psychotherapy to adults (18-65+).
Qualifications
- BSc in Counselling Psychology (University of Roehampton)
- MSc in Psychological Therapy (London Metropolitan University)
- Specialist Training in Loss, Complicated Grief and Traumatic Bereavement (NHS Accredited)
I am trained to approach therapy using different models, which include person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and psychodynamic therapy. Additional workshops I have completed alongside my training also allows me incorporate other techniques used in models such as Gestalt, Relational Therapy and ACT into my client work. This gives me more flexibility into how I work with clients through a wide range of issues, meaning that I can integrate different techniques and tailor sessions according to a clients needs.
Fees and Flexibility of Sessions
- Sessions are online and last for 1 hour (a full 60 minute session rather than the standard 50 minutes most practitioners offer).
- I am unable to offer discounted rates for block payments. Weekly payments on the day of the session are preferred and recommended.
- Sessions are weekly, but fortnightly can be discussed if needed.
- In certain circumstances, where a client is in particular need of more support or intense therapy, 90-minute (£90), 2-hour sessions (£120) or two single sessions in the same week can be offered until it is best to resume to regular 1-hour sessions. This additional time needs to be booked at least a week in advance.
Practice description
If you decide to work with me, you can expect a warm, empathic, non-judgemental practitioner, who will actively listen and try to understand the world from your lens. I will also challenge you when needed by asking questions and encourage self-reflection, and support you through moments that involve delving deeper or feel out of your comfort zone. I can also recommend resources such as books, podcasts, articles, questionnaires etc and provide therapeutic tasks to complete in your own time if this was of interest. I believe therapy works best for individuals when it can be seen as a collaborative working relationship that aims to help you achieve positive change in your life, thus improving your general health and wellbeing.
If you were my client, my hope is that you feel comfortable enough to be yourself as much as possible. No need to sugar coat things. Therapy is an experience that offers a safe space for clients to say what is really going on for them. In return, you benefit from an authentic exchange which creates the opportunity to learn more about yourself and then grow, develop and heal from that experience.
I completely understand how difficult it can be to open up to someone and I consider it a privilege to be trusted with different life stories and experiences. Patience is key and I work at your pace and tailor sessions according to your needs and the goals we set when we begin working together.
Thank you for considering me to be part of your journey. I hope I can help.
My first session
Free 20-minute introductory call
I know it's not easy to choose a therapist just by looking at their profile, sometimes speaking on the phone can help make that decision. If you think working with me would be a good fit, please get in touch via email with some information about why you are seeking therapy and we can arrange to speak on the phone for a 20-minute introductory call. This will give us both the chance to ask each other some questions.
If you decide after the call that you'd like to move forward, then the next step would be to work out a start date. I would also send you a 'Client Agreement Form' and a questionnaire, which need to be completed and sent back to me before the first session.
What to expect from the first session
All clients approach their first session differently - some people like to dive right in whereas others prefer to take things slower. But generally, a first session with me involves going over some basic principles about therapy such as health and safety, confidentiality, time, boundaries and any previous therapy/counselling you may have had. I normally allow up to 15 minutes for this. It is important for me to ensure that you feel as comfortable as possible so we can begin to build a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship.
I'd then move on by asking how you are and how you have been since our introductory call and invite you to explain in more detail why you have sought therapy and what you would like to get from our work together. This is a chance for you to ease into things and share whatever you feel comfortable with. The last 10 minutes would involve me checking-in with how you are feeling before the time ends and to summarise the session.
The aim of this approach would be to help you feel comfortable going into the next session, where I would then encourage you to take the lead and tell me what is on your mind.
