About me and my therapy practice

Thank you for viewing my page.

You have taken the first step towards your counselling journey. If this is your first time or indeed even if you are a returning client, this can often seem like a daunting experience. Selecting your therapist is very important. Building rapport and placing trust in your therapist, within a 'safe space' where you feel supported and listened to, without fear of judgement, can help to restore your sense of purpose.

Counselling is a talking therapy, this is done at your own pace. It gives you time to explore any concerns and helps to find ways to manage the issues that are proving difficult for you, often gaining a deeper understanding of yourself in the process. There is nothing too big or too small to bring to counselling.

I have been working in the health industry for several years and my main interest has been within the mental health field. I am a Registered Member of ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Dip Couns. (MÌÇÐĹÙÍø). I am also an Accredited member of the  and a registered member of The Federation of Holistic Therapists (MFHT).   I work as an Integrative  therapist, this allows me to use different modalities in counselling and therapy,  or a blended method.  Each session is tailored to your own specific needs.

Sometimes life presents challenges, that we all experience in different ways. These difficulties can be emotional, distressing and overwhelming, leaving us exhausted and unable to cope with our daily obligations. Counselling can help towards making those small positive changes, to help you gain a different perspective.

Together we can discuss and explore the thoughts, feelings and issues that have brought you to this point. Working together we can determine how your past experiences affect your present and begin to restore a more positive balance.

I have experience in a wide range of issues such as Bereavement, Abuse, Self esteem, OCD, Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Shame, Trauma, Addiction, Self-harm, Suicide ideation.

Practice description

Hello and welcome.

If you are reading this, you might be looking for some support during a difficult time, or perhaps you are seeking help for a child or young person in your life.

I am a professional counsellor based in Cookstown, Mid-Ulster, I run my practice from a welcoming room within the Energy Mind and Body Complex.

Over the years, I have worked within the NHS, and various local charities. This background has given me valuable experience in supporting people through a wide range of life challenges.

I also offer employee support programs (EAP).

I believe there is no "one-size-fits-all" when it comes to therapy. We will work together at a pace that feels comfortable for you, tailoring our sessions to your unique life and needs.

Because everyone's schedule are different, I offer flexible ways to meet:

In the Office: A quiet, private, and comfortable space where you can relax and focus on you.

Your Own Home: If getting to the office is tricky, I am fully trained to provide online video or telephone sessions, supporting you anywhere in Northern Ireland or across the UK.

Walk and Talk Therapy: We can head outdoors. This allows us to chat while walking side-by-side in natural surroundings, weather and time permitting.

It is important that you feel secure and looked after. I maintain the highest professional and safety standards so you can focus entirely on your well-being:

Fully Insured for peace of mind.

ICO Registered, which means your personal details and privacy are protected by strict regulations.

Up-to-Date Enhanced DBS Certificate, ensuring the highest level of safety and vetting for adults, children, and young people alike.

Finding the Cookstown Office:

We are based inside the Energy Mind and Body Complex, right next door to Aarons Gym and across the road from the PSNI station.

Where to Park: There are clearly marked parking spaces right outside our front door. If those are full, Argos car park is free and just a short, flat walk away.

My first session

Our first session together is an opportunity to meet and get to know each other. There are some standard questions that I go through with each client. I will explain how I work as a therapist as well as explaining about confidentially. I will also answer any questions or concerns you may have.

It may be necessary to do a short assessment to understand more about you and any issues you are currently experiencing.

We will also discuss what you would like to achieve through counselling and any goals you would like to work towards. If you have any apprehensions or expectations. By being able to focus on your feelings and develop self-awareness, this can help bring about positive change.

If you are still unsure if counselling is the right pathway for you, I can offer a short 20 minute telephone consultation, if you feel this may be of benefit to you.

There is no charge for this.

Our initial meeting will last approximately 50 -60 minutes. During this time we will discuss what you see as your main issues, is there a combination of issues you are currently facing? perhaps something is blocking you from moving forward and progressing further, you may not know what it is that is troubling you. That's ok. There is no pressure to reveal or discuss anything you do not feel comfortable doing. You decide what details you wish to share.

Feeling comfortable with your therapist is key to a successful ongoing therapeutic relationship.
