About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I am a humanistic integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, and believe that everyone’s story is unique to them. My aim is to provide you with a trusting confidential space where you feel safe, supported, and heard so that you feel comfortable to share what is troubling you.

I offer walk and talk counselling, in person counselling, online counselling via Zoom/WhatsApp, and telephone counselling. I also have limited slots at reduced rates for students, those on low income or benefits, and trainee counsellors - please ask, to check for my availability, should you require this.

I have experience over a wide range of issues some of which include anxiety, depression, grief/loss - which includes living loss and the grief of losing a pet, relationship problems, domestic abuse, self-esteem and identity issues, self-harm, and PTSD/Trauma.

My qualifications include a Master's in Counselling from York St John University, Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from York St John University and a certificate in online and telephone counselling, which is accredited by the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø. I am a registered member of the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø abiding by their ethical framework and maintaining continued professional development.

Having come from a background of secondary teaching in the early part of my working life, I have always felt passionate about listening, caring, and supporting people so that they feel able to get to a place where they feel secure moving forward. I also feel that my teaching experience has deepened my empathy and understanding of the pressures many people feel within their working roles, and the struggles and difficulties that come with balancing work and life expectations.

Practice description

In my counselling relationships I believe deeply in creating a warm close connection between myself and the client so that they can feel understood and accepted in a way that enables them to find understanding and acceptance of themselves.

Whatever it is that has led you to this point in your life I want to help you find ways to come to terms with difficult experiences and make sense of any unhelpful patterns/themes so that you feel better equipped to make choices that are right for you moving forward, then life can feel lighter and more manageable.

I will always work to listen to what you need and at a pace that feels comfortable for you, so you feel safe and able to find hope, acceptance and courage to progress forward.

My first session

Availability

I currently have morning/afternoon availability Tues-Fri between the hours of 9am and 4pm. I work in-person through 'in the room' and 'walk and talk', and remotely via zoom and telephone.

About me and my therapy practice

My framework to supervision is Humanistic Integrative, deeply grounded in person-centred values and enriched by Existential philosophy. Just as I believe the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of client change, I view the supervisory relationship as central to professional development. I see supervision as an authentic relational space that is co-created – a space that is collaborative, reflective and supportive, where as a supervisee you can safely explore both your client work and development as a practitioner.

It is important to me that I provide a warm supportive space in which you can feel safe enough to be open up about uncertainty, mistakes, emotional responses and areas of growth, whilst also being appropriately challenged to think ethically and critically about your practice.

I offer supervision in person either at my therapy room or via walk and talk (both around 12 miles north of York), as well as remotely via Zoom or telephone.

(Please note that due to the rural location, there is no direct public transport, so access by car is required.)

Practice description

In my practice, I utilise the Seven-Eyed Model of Hawkins and Shohet as a foundational framework to explore the counselling practice through multiple lenses. I place particular curiosity around how the supervisee’s broader relational patterns unfold in therapy sessions, what this reveals for the supervisee, and how these dynamics may be mirrored within the supervisory process itself. I also integrate Stoltenberg’s Integrated Developmental Model (IDM) so that the work with supervisees can be tailored to support and provide them with the right level of supervision for their needs.

I have a particular interest in neurodiversity, trauma-informed practice and walk and talk therapy, which informs the way I offer an inclusive and compassionate supervisory space. I also hold deep curiosity about what the body may be communicating, as embodied responses can offer valuable information about the supervisee's experience, the client relationship and the supervisory process.

I bring to my supervision practice a wealth of experience gained through my work as a volunteer counsellor, charity trustee, and counsellor mentor within the third sector. Having spent many years in community mental health, I hold a deep understanding of diverse client presentations, organizational dynamics, and practitioner development.

Having come from a background of secondary teaching in the early part of my working life I hold a longstanding passion for professional development and supportive mentorship. My teaching career deeply informed my understanding of work-life balance, occupational stress, and the realities of duty-of-care roles. I bring this empathic, structured foundation to my supervisory work, helping counsellors feel supported, capable, and confident in their practice.

My first session

I offer an initial, free 30 minute zoom or telephone session so that we can discuss your supervision needs and help us decide whether we would be a good fit for each other. Please get in touch if you would like to arrange this.

If you are eligible for a concessionary fee please discuss this with me in this session too.
