About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Claire (she/her) I’m an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist based in the centre of Nottingham, a 5 minute walk from Nottingham Castle.

I qualified from the renowned Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute and have been in practice for many years working in private practice and also in the voluntary sector.  I’ve worked with people from many walks of life and always from the basis of respect for individuality and uniqueness.

What I offer is Integrative Relational Counselling and Psychotherapy, meaning I believe that it is the unique relationship between therapist and client that creates the conditions needed for change and growth.   That is why it’s so important to find the right therapist for you, someone that you feel really gets you and that given time would be an ally in whatever it is that you face.

There’s no such thing as a wrong question in order for you to find the right therapist.  Get in touch with an email and I’ll respond as quickly and thoroughly as I can.

My website will give you lots more information www.clairehenrytherapy.com

Practice description

My practice is in central Nottingham, a 5 minute walk from Nottingham Castle.  There is free roadside parking for the duration of your session and also car parks and paid roadside parking all nearby.

We begin with an initial session.  Though we most likely have spoken on the phone already, this session offers us the opportunity to meet properly and start to get to know each other.  You get to see the therapy space, meet me and get a feel for it all before committing to further sessions and I get to understand more about what you need from therapy and if I’ve got the right experience to support you.  We can also discuss dates, timings and importantly the issues relating to confidentiality.

All sessions, including the initial one, last for 50 minutes and cost £80.00, payable in advance of the session.

My first session

I’ll offer a warm welcome and a drink of water, tea or coffee, (you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer).  We’ll go to the therapy room on the ground floor which looks out to the garden and you can choose where you’d like to sit in order that you feel comfortable and safe.  We may need to adjust the seating or surroundings in some way if that helps you.  The room is quiet and secure where we’ll not be overheard or interrupted.

The initial session is about getting to know each other.  I’ll usually start by telling you more about what to expect whilst working with me so we can start from a really secure place of understanding about confidentiality and boundaries.  You’ll usually have already received a copy of the working alliance and confidentiality agreement that I’ll have sent you by email ahead of your session, so we can talk through that and I can answer any questions you may have about it.

I’ll also ask you about your goals, hopes and any fears you may have in starting therapy. It is important to acknowledge that taking the first steps to come to therapy is not always easy. It is courageous to ask for help and be willing to take the first steps towards sharing your concerns and difficulties especially with someone you’ve just met.  I never cease to be moved by the choice to start therapy, especially for the first time and I hope to assure you that I will offer you the care and respect that you deserve.

Following this initial session you may decide to take some time to think things through and decide if you want to continue or go and visit other therapists.  That is perfectly normal and not something you need to feel concerned about telling me. It’s also important that I believe I have the right experience to work with you, if I don’t I will be honest and say so.  It would be unethical for me to do otherwise, though I’d do my best to recommend other therapists more able to support you.
