About me and my therapy practice

I work with adults and young people (from age 12).  I work on a long-term basis or for short-term focused work.

I aim to provide a safe and confidential space to explore life's challenges. I believe that however difficult things may feel, with a regular, non-judgemental, empathic space to explore difficult feelings, things can feel better again. I am here to listen and help you make sense of why you might be feeling the way you are. Together we can work it through in a way that enables fresh perspectives and perhaps a new understanding of you. Counselling is not about giving you solutions or advice but empowering you to make your own changes that are right for you.

Practice description

I am an integrative psychotherapist meaning that I draw on many different theories and ideas within my work including person-centred, humanistic, existential, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural concepts.

My qualifications include:

Diploma in Counselling Supervision

MA Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling

PGDip Counselling and Psychotherapy

BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing.

Before undertaking my therapist training I worked as a mental health nurse in the NHS for over 20 years.  I therefore have a wealth of experience of working with people with a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, bereavement, relationship troubles, post-traumatic stress, low self-esteem/self-confidence, stress, abuse.

I have a particular interest in working with individuals in midlife, both men and women.  I also specialise in postnatal depression - again in both men and women.

Client Testimonial

'Attending weekly sessions with Charlie has changed my life. My counselling journey has been very up and down, I have felt consistently supported and encouraged, and as though however I am feeling is ok. I have learnt how to manage my emotions and am able to get through tough situations with a much clearer head. I look forward to my session each week and feel I owe Charlie so much, I will never be able to thank her enough for this journey. She is a great counsellor and I would say to anybody considering getting in touch, absolutely do and it will be one of the best and most life changing decisions you make.' C (2021).

My first session

I understand that seeking counselling can feel frightening and overwhelming. I encourage all my clients to have an initial 20 minute telephone conversation to briefly discuss your reasons for seeking help, and to provide an opportunity for you to ask questions that you may have. There is no charge for this conversation.

In our first session I will explain more about how I work and we'll look further at what has brought you to therapy. We'll explore what your hopes and goals are from our work together and start building our relationship. When starting this journey it is essential that you feel comfortable to work with me so at the end of the first session we will discuss whether you wish to book further appointments or seek help somewhere else. Either choice is the right one for you.

About me and my therapy practice

As a qualified supervisor, I offer both individual and group supervision for trainee and experienced counsellors. I work collaboratively to create a safe, non-judgemental space where reflection, learning, and professional development can thrive.

Drawing on the work of Michael Carroll, I encourage supervisees to bring their whole selves, and all aspects of their practice, into the supervision space so that we can reflect together and explore their work in depth, with the aim of supporting the best possible outcomes for their clients.

My first session

I meet with all potential supervisees for an initial meeting to establish what you hope for from supervision and what your supervisory needs might be.  I hope that in this first meeting you will get a sense of how I work and whether I am the right supervisor for you.
