Availability
It is understandable that the thought of arranging the first session can feel overwhelming, as you may not be sure what to expect. Many clients often say that this is the 'hardest part', however, there is no right/wrong as to how a therapy session 'ought to be', nor is there any pressure to book further sessions.
I am offering therapeutic support to you, whereby we will work together at your own pace and if you choose to, we can then arrange dates/times which suit both of us.
Sessions can be arranged weekly/fortnightly - depending on your preference. There is never a requirement to pay for multiple sessions up front, payment is kindly required in advance of the session which follows the current one. Pencilling dates in our diaries ensure that we are able to arrange to meet on a regular basis at a time which suits you.
At the moment - I have no personal holidays planned and have some availability, so please feel free to reach out to me.
We can meet via zoom online or arrange a telephone call (£55 for the 50 minute session). I will do my best to accommodate with days/times.
Alternatively, we could use a room in Thame, however, there will be a fee for this, due to the cost of administration/booking the room.
If you are a student, I understand that finances can be an issue and can potentially offer a concessionary reduced fee if we are meeting via zoom/telephone (please feel free to mention this to me).
About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to my profile. I am here to warmly support you and can offer a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts without judgment. You may be struggling and feeling anxious; overwhelmed or experiencing low mood/depression.
Sometimes just feeling heard and understood so that you don't feel so alone, can enable you to make sense of what you are going through so that you can move forward.
I understand personally and professionally, that your thoughts and feelings may affect you physically in a negative way (e.g. presenting as headaches; stomach pains/IBS and impact your sleeping patterns). Therefore, having this time for you to compassionately explore and reflect may provide a healthier outlet for thoughts/feelings.
What are the benefits of starting counselling sessions with me?
I am an Accredited ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Therapist and use an integrative approach so that I can adapt my approach to meet your individual needs. I also have Adlerian training, which means that you have the opportunity to explore early memories; your family of origin and dreams. They enable us to gain a good understanding of how you view yourself and the world, so we can use this insight to help you manage your perceived difficulties.
Feel free to look at my website to read some client testimonials.
Special areas of interest
I have an interest in managing Anxiety because I have experienced it personally, and understand how debilitating it can be. Therefore, I have undertaken further training so that I could support clients who are struggling to cope with it.
I also have an interest in Perinatal care due to my professional background (Midwife/Health Visitor) and undertaking Counselling training with the Oxford Infant-Parent Perinatal Service.
Additional Training includes:
Advanced CBT; Grief and Bereavement; Couples and Family Therapy; Dealing with Depression; Eating Disorder Awareness; PND and ÌÇÐĹÙÍø aligned Online and Telephone Counselling.
Practice description
How do I work?
I work as an Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist which means that I utilise different techniques when working alongside you depending on what you decide to bring to the session.
You will have the time to feel heard and listened to in a safe; confidential space, whereby you won't feel judged and we can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
To help with getting to the root of your difficulties, I have Adlerian training, which means that we can explore your family of origin; early memories and dreams. They often provides insight into yourself and how you view the world.
Our interpretations are often formed from a young age and this is a time where our sense of belonging and significance is formed. Understanding ourselves better and identifying behaviour patterns can be insightful and useful...as this provides the opportunity to change (if you are feeling 'stuck').
Sometimes, other strategies can be helpful, which is why I have undertaken CBT training.
What do I mean when I say I adopt a holistic approach?
I recognise that we are all unique individuals and therefore, following a 'tick box' approach is not helpful for you.
Working holistically means that I have an awareness that different aspects of our lives contribute to how we feel about ourselves and others.
I come from a Medical background and have also attained a Psychology Degree, therefore, I recognise the mind and body are both important in different ways.
What issues do I work with?
Antenatal/Perinatal support is my 'niche' area of practice, due to working as a Family Planning Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor. I have experience of supporting clients who are trying to conceive; have had difficult pregnancies; experienced birth trauma; 'baby blues' or postnatal depression.
I also support clients who are experiencing Anxiety; Stress; Low Self esteem; Depression/low mood; Bereavement/Loss; Disordered Eating and Family issues.

Our first session together is an opportunity to find out what has brought you to counselling and how we can work together to overcome your perceived difficulties.

There is no right/wrong way to have counselling, it is about what works best for you as an individual.
If you would like to have an initial telephone call or a brief zoom meeting that can be arranged.
This is free of charge whereby I can answer any questions you may have about how I work.
Alternatively, you are welcome to book a full 50 minute session, which can be a ‘one off’ (no obligation to continue) or we can book a number of appointments in advance at a time which works for us both.
The time agreed for the next session is reserved in my diary for 48 hours, although only following receipt of the fee via BACS, will your appointment be guaranteed. A zoom link will then be sent through to you.
If payment has not been kindly received 24 hours before the session, I will assume that the appointment is not going ahead and therefore will offer this time to any other interested client.

About me and my therapy practice
Hi, welcome to my profile. My name is Louise and I work as a Qualified Online Supervisor (and ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist) in Thame.
I am a Certified to work online which means that I am equipped to provide sessions via zoom/telephone (having an awareness of the additional considerations involved).
My Supervision training was based on the 7 Eyed Model which I realised has helped to really 'see the client' and take a helicopter view of the supervisory process.
Having had personal experience of good (and no so good) supervision, I understand how important the supervisory relationship is. Our clients don't want to feel judged and neither do we, as counsellors. I am available to support you so that you feel you can reflect and be open and honest. There is then the opportunity for personal growth as we can explore what has worked and how we could possibly work with the client differently. The clients are at the centre of our practice so this exploration helps all of us.
As a Therapist, I have undertaken additional training in the following areas:
Advanced CBT; Grief and Bereavement; Couples and Family Therapy; Dealing with Depression; Eating Disorder Awareness; PND; Trauma and the body.
I was also keen to undertaken further training in Managing Anxiety as I had experienced this personally and recognised how debilitating it could be. Therefore, I now feel more equipped to help support clients who are experiencing Anxiety.
Struggling to conceive and Perinatal support is my 'niche' area of practice, due to previously working as a Family Planning Nurse; Midwife and Health Visitor. I am also fortunate to have completed some of my Counselling training with the Oxford Infant-Parent Perinatal Service (which included supporting clients who had experienced birth trauma).
Previous experience outside of private practice includes working in a State Secondary School and Private School - both of which have enabled me to gain further understanding of risk and safeguarding.
Practice description
How do I work?
I am a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Accredited Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist which is particularly beneficial when providing Supervision (as I have an understanding of different perspectives and incorporate these into my practice).
I work in a Person Centred way and have attained a Diploma in Adlerian Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I am fortunate to have undertaken Adlerian Training, because this means I can potentially be creative and work alongside clients to explore their early memories; family of origin and dreams. Within supervision sessions, these aspects enable us to really gain a bigger picture of 'who the client is'.
I currently also work as a Reflexologist, which has developed my understanding of the mind and body connection. I have developed an awareness that the a client could be affected psychologically, as well as physically, as the two aspects are often interlinked.
Taking this holistic perspective is a helpful way of remembering that all of our clients are unique individuals with different experiences and different views of the world. Therefore, there is recognition that we all have our own struggles and coping strategies (some of which are more helpful than others).
This insight led me to undertake CBT training, so that I could gain knowledge of alternative strategies to help with managing and overcoming difficulties.
How do we plan our future sessions?
At the end of our supervision session, we can plan ahead for the following one. I will do my best to accommodate, whether that be meeting fortnightly or monthly.
I understand that life is busy, so if you need to change the day/time for any reason, please let me know as soon as possible and we can reschedule (with at least 24 hours notice so that I could potentially offer this slot to someone else). Otherwise, full payment for the session will still be required.
How does payment work?
Please transfer the payment via BACS prior to our session together and I will then send the zoom link through to you.
My first session
I will send my Supervision agreement through to you prior to the first session, so please complete your details as per kindly requested (within the document).
We can review how our sessions together are going every few months, however, you are most welcome to share any concerns or thoughts with me along the way!
I would like you to enjoy meeting for supervision and get the most out of it. Together, we can then make a positive difference to our clients and work safely within the ethical framework.
The session is led by you, however, if you are a student, we need to reflect/explore how you are working with all of your clients.
