About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Liz, a Person-Centred Counsellor offering a warm, supportive, and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgement.

I specialise in working with children and young people, supporting them through a range of challenges including anxiety, self-esteem, confidence, emotional wellbeing, identity, relationships, and life transitions. I also work with adults seeking support with personal, emotional, or life difficulties.

My approach is based on the belief that when we feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted, we are better able to make sense of our experiences and move towards positive change. I work collaboratively with clients, creating a therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy, and authenticity.

Alongside private practice, I have extensive experience supporting children and young people within educational settings. I hold a Level 5 Certificate in Counselling Children and Young People, an Enhanced DBS certificate, Safeguarding Children and Adults training, and I am an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (ÌÇÐĹÙÍø). I am also ICO registered and fully insured.

I offer counselling from the Ora Wellbeing Centre in Derby, with some online appointments available where appropriate.

My aim is to provide a safe and supportive environment where you can develop greater self-understanding, build resilience, and feel more confident moving forward.

Practice description

Beginning counselling can feel like a big step, whether you are seeking support for yourself or for a child or young person. My aim is to provide a welcoming, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you can feel comfortable exploring whatever may be on your mind.

As a Person-Centred Counsellor, I believe that each individual is the expert in their own life. Rather than directing or advising, I work alongside you, offering empathy, understanding, and acceptance as we explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences together. Sessions are led by you and shaped around what feels most important and meaningful at the time.

I specialise in working with children and young people, and have particular experience supporting those experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional difficulties, relationship challenges, identity exploration, and periods of change or transition. I also work with adults who may be facing personal, emotional, or life challenges.

For younger clients, I adapt my approach to meet their developmental needs, creating a supportive environment where they can express themselves in ways that feel comfortable and natural to them. For young adults and adults, counselling offers a space to reflect, gain insight, and develop greater understanding of themselves and their experiences.

My practice is based at the Ora Wellbeing Centre, where I currently offer in-person appointments. Limited online sessions may also be available where appropriate.

Above all, I aim to build a genuine therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, valued, and supported to make sense of what you are experiencing and move forward with greater confidence and self-understanding.

My first session

I offer a free 15-minute introductory telephone consultation for prospective clients. This provides an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to counselling, ask any initial questions, and explore whether I may be the right counsellor for you. There is no obligation to book further sessions following this call.

If you decide to proceed, the first counselling session provides an opportunity for us to get to know one another in more depth and explore what has brought you to counselling. We will discuss what you hope to gain from counselling, any relevant background information, and how we may work together moving forward.

I will also explain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and answer any questions you may have about the counselling process.

For children and young people, an initial consultation with a parent or carer may be arranged where appropriate to discuss concerns, expectations, and the practical aspects of counselling, while ensuring the young person's wellbeing remains at the centre of the process.

There is no obligation to continue after the first session. Finding the right counsellor is an important part of the therapeutic process, and I encourage clients to take the time they need to decide whether counselling with me feels like the right fit.

Initial counselling sessions are charged at my standard session rate.
