About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Sara,
as an Integrative Psychotherapist I offer an mixed model approach tailored to your specific needs.
In response to your needs different ways of facilitating therapy can be used including, Trauma-Informed, Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Existential and Gestalt approaches.
In addition to more generalised therapy I also specialise in trauma and anxiety. This includes working on a body-focussed treatment approach, prioritising regulation and safety. In creating a stable foundation first the resilience needed for the deeper process work to occur safely, can happen.
I’m working this way clients are guided and strengthened to enable safe integration and release.
In addition to trauma work I facilitate the removal of resistance and blocks, explore the emotional significance of past experience and help clients redirect focal attention to the present moment to build a good meaningful life.
Whether driven by unconscious wounding from childhood, struggling to process more recent life experience or understanding and supporting the self, many people come into therapy with a sense of urgency and a range of unprocessed experience. This often results in physical unease, a distorted sense of self and a complex range of adaptive coping mechanisms. These can include physical, mental, behavioural and emotional, necessary at the time but become ultimately maladaptive and life limiting as times goes on.
Safe Passage Psychotherapy provides a warm, safe space to work to address whatever issues you have and come to be able to reduce the need for protective adaptations, live more freely and joyfully and generally thrive, instead of survive.
Practice description
I offer the space for you to turn up as you are, however you feel, where you will warmly welcomed. The space is calm abd comfortable and a hot drink and blanket are provided to help you relax. This is time just for you.
From the outset the therapy experience is designed to support you safely through your healing journey. When overwhelmed by intolerable anxiety our brains often motivate us to avoid our feelings. These feelings are intense can can include; wooshing, plummeting, tingling, tightening, numbing, sweating, constricting, and hyperventilating. In an attempt to control our anxiety we can find ourselves using a range of cognitive and behavioural defence mechanisms such as; overthinking, focussing on narrative, disconnecting, distracting, projecting, compulsivity and self-medicating.
In recognizing the role of the nervous system in our survival, we can learning to see the body as an ally in our healing journey. The internal processes that overwhelm us when we are anxious can build to intolerable levels. Through the facilitation of body-focussed exercises, we work in a safely paced, trauma informed way to build up regulation capacity and stabilization.
Treatment is tailored specifically to help you build tolerance to the discomfort of your anxiety as it it happening. Through the reassurance of empathic support and the therapeutic relationship, the trapped threat of your anxiety can be safely discharged and released in a controlled environment.
In processing unhealed trauma and anxiety in this way a client can come to appreciated the support security the boundary of the body offers and experience a relief from debilitating symptoms and experience.
