About me and my therapy practice
I’m Avril, I am passionate about creating a safe, inclusive space where people feel able to bring themselves fully, explore their experiences, and make sense of their world.
Working from a place of compassion and curiosity, I integrate person-centred practice with creative and trauma-informed approaches. I aim to walk alongside clients in their process, moving at a pace that feels right for them. I believe that each person is unique and trust in their ability to bring what feels important into therapy. Sessions are therefore not prescriptive; instead, they support the development of self-awareness, self-trust, and meaningful change.
Together, we will create a path towards the change you want in your life.
Please get in touch if you have any questions or to arrange a consultation.
Practice description
I work online and outdoors. When working outdoors, nature is not just a change in venue but an integral part of the therapeutic process. The natural environment can support grounding, emotional regulation and connection, creating space for therapy to unfold differently. I bring 20 years' experience across personal development and therapeutic settings, including four years as an outdoor psychotherapist.
My approach to therapy has evolved through my experience of working alongside clients and professional trainings. I hold particular understanding in C-PTSD, PTSD, neurodivergence, and gender identity.

About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Avril an Outdoor Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor, gaining qualification originally in Person Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy (MSc) in 2021 from the University of Strathclyde. Though I still hold Person-Centred theory at the core of my practice, my varied experience and ongoing professional development see me integrate creative trauma informed approaches in both outdoor and online environments, drawing from psychodynamic and compassions focused thereaputic approaches.
I have worked in a variety of settings, such as NHS occupational health, school counselling and 3rd sector counselling services. Over the past 4 years I have worked as an Outdoor Therapist and Clinical Practice Manager for Venture Trust, overseeing their Outdoor Therapy service. I am currently developing private practice and consultancy.
I have gained experience in working therapeutically with a broad range of presenting issues, developing particular interests and knowledge in developmental trauma, neurodivergence and gender identity.
Prior to training as a psychotherapist, my passion for personal development and working therapeutically was nurtured through a BA (hons) in Outdoor Education and over 15 years’ experience, working in a variety of education, outdoor and community settings. This work was predominantly with marginalised groups as an instructor, educator and facilitator, both in the UK and abroad. Because of my enthusiasm for holistic personal development, I also qualified as a yoga teacher in 2019. This experience has given me a wealth of experience to draw from in my psychotherapeutic and supervision work.
Practice description
I gained my Certificate in Clinical Supervision from Persona Development and Training. I am open to working with practitioners from all modalities along with mental health allied professionals.
Though I bring particular knowledge and understanding of outdoor therapeutic practice, I am not limited to working in the outdoors and offer online sessions for all those practicing in a different medium or for those not able to access my locale.
As a supervisor I pride myself on working collaboratively, fostering a safe, supportive and contained space for supervises to explore, develop and make meaning of their clinical work.
I work both in person outdoors in the Kirkintiloch and Kilsyth area, as well as online.
