About me and my therapy practice

Are you going through a difficult time or feeling stuck? You don’t have to face things alone.

I offer counselling and CBT both online and in person from my own private, purpose-built therapy rooms in St Helens town centre. The space is newly furnished, welcoming, and designed to help you feel comfortable and at ease.

Many of the people I work with are used to coping, pushing through, and carrying responsibility for others. From the outside they may appear capable and functioning well, but internally feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from themselves.

You do not need to be in crisis to come to therapy. Sometimes people seek counselling because something difficult has happened; other times it is simply a growing sense that life has become emotionally heavy or hard to navigate alone.

I offer a warm, thoughtful, and collaborative space where you can slow down, feel heard without judgement, and begin making sense of what is happening beneath the surface. I understand that starting therapy can feel daunting, especially if you are used to managing alone or putting other people’s needs first.

Alongside private practice, I also work within the NHS and have experience supporting people affected by cancer, long-term health conditions, grief, burnout, anxiety, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm. This has deepened my understanding of the impact stress, illness, responsibility, and change can have on our wellbeing and sense of self.

My approach is integrative, meaning I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on your individual needs. I value emotional exploration alongside practical support and may incorporate CBT techniques where helpful, particularly in relation to anxiety, self-criticism, stress, and boundaries.

I believe therapy is not about being judged or told what to do. It is about creating space to reflect, process, understand yourself more deeply, and begin responding to yourself with greater awareness and compassion.

Practice description

I offer a flexible, collaborative approach because I believe therapy should fit around you—not the other way around. You might want space to reflect on your thoughts and feelings, or you may prefer a more structured, goal-focused style. We can work together to decide what feels right.

I’m trained as an integrative therapist, combining person-centred counselling with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This allows us to balance emotional exploration with practical strategies for change. When useful, I also draw on elements of psychodynamic, relational, and solution-focused therapy.

Each session is a confidential space where you can talk openly without fear of judgement. Whether you’re working through something specific or you’re not sure where to start, my role is to support you in making sense of what’s going on, finding ways to cope, and moving towards feeling more like yourself again.

For clients living with long-term health conditions or life-changing diagnoses—whether your own or someone else’s—I offer additional understanding from my healthcare background and personal experience. This might include adjusting to change, coping with pain, or managing the emotional impact of illness.

Sessions are available online or in person from my private and comfortable therapy rooms in St Helens town centre.

My first session

Usually we’ll start with a short introductory phone call or meeting online. This gives us a chance to introduce ourselves, discuss what you’re looking for from counselling, and check that our availability and way of working are a good fit. Most importantly, you’ll get a sense of whether you feel comfortable with me as a counsellor so that we can move forward with a trusting and safe working relationship where you can freely explore your concerns at your own pace and depth.

If you decide to go ahead, we’ll arrange your first session. In this meeting, I’ll carry out a gentle counselling assessment to help me understand you better and begin to shape how we’ll work together. We’ll also agree on a working contract. This isn’t about committing to a set number of sessions—it simply sets out the professional boundaries that help keep counselling safe and ethical. It includes things like confidentiality, fees, cancellations, and where you can seek support if you ever have concerns.

There will be time in this first session for you to begin talking about what’s brought you to counselling. How much you choose to share is entirely up to you. Some people open up right away, while others prefer to take it slowly. Both are perfectly fine.

You’ll also get a sense of how I work, although counselling relationships tend to deepen over time, so the first session may feel a little different from later ones.

At the end of the session, we can talk about whether you’d like to continue. There’s no pressure to decide straight away—you’re welcome to take some time to think it over.
