About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I鈥檓 Helen (she/her), an Integrative Psychotherapist based in South London. I offer therapy for a range of issues including anxiety, low self-worth, attachment and relationship difficulties, working with clients in Beckenham and online across the UK.

You may be considering therapy, perhaps for the first time. Talking about your thoughts and feelings with someone who is trained to listen with empathy, genuineness and without judgement can be deeply meaningful. It won鈥檛 鈥渇ix鈥 you or change the past, but it may support you to move forward with greater self-awareness, acceptance and compassion.

Alongside this, I am a registered member of the 糖心官网 and the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy), and work in accordance with their ethical frameworks.

MY APPROACH

I believe that we all experience suffering and come up against challenges throughout our lives. At times, this can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and from others, unsure how to move forward in a way that feels manageable, meaningful or authentic.

Often, we come to believe that our thoughts and feelings are 鈥渨rong鈥, or that parts of ourselves are somehow 鈥渂ad鈥. These beliefs can develop through earlier relationships and experiences, as well as the wider social and cultural environments we are immersed in, including experiences of societal oppression and discrimination related to race, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability and other intersecting identities.

I work relationally, psychodynamically and somatically, and am also trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS). In practice, this means we might pay attention to:

  • patterns in relationships and emotional responses
  • how past experiences shape present difficulties
  • how emotions are experienced in the body
  • your relationship to the different parts of yourself鈥
  • what emerges between us in the therapeutic relationship

Rather than focusing on quick fixes, therapy offers a space for deeper understanding, emotional processing, and gradual change.

Practice description

I work with clients either on a short or longer-term basis. Sessions are 50 minutes and take place weekly in-person, online or outdoors in nature.

I offer in-person therapy in Beckenham (BR3), working out of two locations. Street parking is available at both sites. Nearest stations are Kent House, Clock House and Birkbeck. Surrounding areas include Bromley, Penge, Crystal Palace, Sydenham, Forest Hill, Dulwich, Herne Hill, Brockley, Catford, Lewisham, New Cross, Croydon, West Wickham.

I also offer the option of working outdoors in Crystal Palace Park. If this is of interest, please let me know. All initial sessions take place at one of my indoor locations so we can explore what it might be like to work outside together.

ABOUT ME

I have an MA in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling (The Minster Centre and Middlesex University), as well as an Advanced Diploma and Diploma in Integrative Counselling.

Alongside six years of training, my own experience of long-term therapy has been central to my growth as a therapist. Having sat in the client鈥檚 chair, I know first-hand what it can feel like. I believe it is vital to have undertaken this depth of inner work myself before inviting others to do the same.

Professionally, I have experience of working as a therapist in low-cost community counselling services where I worked with a wide range of clients with different backgrounds and presenting issues. I continue to attend training as part of my ongoing professional development and have regular one-to-one and peer supervision which ensures my work is overseen and remains ethical.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked for over a decade in the independent film industry. I still hold a deep love of arts and culture and have an interest in working with those who work in the creative industries.

My first session

Finding a therapist who you feel comfortable working with is important, which is why I offer a free 15 minute phone so you can get a feel for me and the way I work.

If after this you would like to book an initial session, we will agree on a time and format (in person or online). This first session will last up to an hour and together we will explore further what has brought you to therapy and how we might work together.
