About me and my therapy practice

Many young people coming to see a counsellor for the first time imagine an adult with a clipboard sitting in a formal setting. Not here! Helping the young person feel that they are in a space where they are able to express their feelings and speak honestly about challenging things underpins each session. No clipboard!

I work in a relationally focussed way with young people who are seeking a therapist who offers counselling sessions in a safe, supportive and non-judgemental way.

We are all individuals and we are all unique. Everyone has their own lived experiences and memories, and the feelings and emotions that come with them.  In my sessions, I work with the client to help them to bring what they need to their sessions and work through this in a way that feels best for them.

In my professional bag I am also a qualified children and teens yoga teacher. Breathwork, and yoga poses, can be used in sessions (when appropriate) with guidance on how these can be included in daily life.

My first session

In the first session, the priority is to form an initial connection with the young person in a way that feels comfortable for them. We will explore the reason they are coming for sessions and how they are feeling about seeing a therapist.

We will also discuss what they can expect from me and what the 'counselling contract' is including the confidentiality they can expect, safeguarding, and how I can offer consistency across their sessions.â·
