About me and my therapy practice
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches and tailor the work to the individual or couple rather than applying a single model.
My work is informed by psychodynamic, attachment-based, existential, humanistic, gestalt and body-oriented approaches. I am interested in how earlier experiences, relationships and coping strategies continue to shape the way we think, feel, relate and respond in the present.
Alongside developing insight and understanding, I pay attention to what is happening emotionally, relationally and physically, recognising that change often involves more than simply understanding why we feel the way we do.
I work collaboratively and view the therapeutic relationship as an important part of the process. I aim to provide a space where clients feel safe enough to explore difficult experiences while also feeling supported to move towards meaningful change.
Practice description
I believe that real change begins when we make space not only for the parts of ourselves we readily accept, but also for the parts we have learned to hide. The vulnerable part, the sad part, the frightened part, the hopeful part, and the part that still longs to be understood.
You may find yourself repeating the same patterns in relationships, struggling with anxiety or self-doubt, feeling disconnected from your partner, caught in conflict, or wondering why the same difficulties keep resurfacing despite your best efforts.
My approach is warm, relational and collaborative. Together, we can explore the patterns, experiences and relationships that have shaped how you relate to yourself and others. Many of the ways we learn to cope develop for good reasons and may once have helped us survive difficult experiences. Over time, however, those same patterns can begin to feel restrictive.
I am a warm therapist, and I am also a direct one. Alongside empathy and support, I will gently challenge where challenge feels helpful. I work with individuals and couples and also offer EMDR therapy. My work draws on psychodynamic, attachment-based, existential, humanistic, gestalt and body-oriented approaches, adapting the therapy to the person or couple in front of me rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model.
Therapy offers a space to slow down, understand what may be happening beneath the surface, and begin making sense of it. Together, we can explore the possibility of greater freedom, connection and choice.
My first session
The initial consultation lasts 90 minutes and is charged at my standard session rate.
The first session is an opportunity for us to begin building a picture of what has brought you to therapy and what you would like support with. We will explore any current difficulties, relevant life experiences, relationships, and what is happening in your life at present.
It is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of me and how I work. Finding the right therapist is important, and I believe it is essential that you feel comfortable enough to be open and honest within the therapeutic relationship. I welcome any questions you may have about therapy or my approach.
For couples, the initial consultation allows space to understand the difficulties you are experiencing, explore the patterns that may be contributing to them, and begin thinking together about what change might look like.
Many people feel nervous before their first session. There is no expectation to know exactly what to say or where to begin. We will start wherever feels most important and work at a pace that feels manageable for you.
