About me and my therapy practice
My approach to psychotherapy is integrated and collaborative; I believe my clients to be experts in their own experiences and I work with them relationally to explore how they live, experience and relate to the world and others, working with them to unpack deeply held beliefs about themselves and others, with the shared aim of long-lasting change.
I have a particular interest in psychodynamic, existential and trauma-informed approaches.
I work in private practice and the NHS ,and am trained in Mentalisation Based Treatment.
Practice description
I’m an integrative therapist, meaning I am trained to call upon different therapeutic modalities to inform the work we undertake together. Part of this is a focus on the relationship between therapist and client, which can help us both understand relational and behavioural patterns, and the impact of these on all areas of life.
At the heart of my practice is a deeply held belief in the power of relationality and connection to others. I understand therapy as a process of making sense of who we are and how we move through the world with the experiences we have had and the circumstances we are in.
My approach aims to be friendly, non-judgemental and collaborative, and I lean on contemporary psychodynamic practice and draw upon trauma-informed techniques and existential concepts. I am also trained in Mentalisation Based Therapy, working with individuals and groups.
My first session
I offer a 15 minute phone call to get a brief understanding of challenges you are facing, and for you to ask any questions you may have before our first session, as well as to establish if the fit feels right. Finding the right therapist fit is an important part of the process and strengthens the therapeutic relationship, which is linked to improved outcomes.
In the first session it is helpful to get a clear picture of your current context and some of your past experience alongside the challenges that bring you to therapy, and to establish some therapeutic goals and how best we might work together.
