About me and my therapy practice
At different points in life, many of us feel stuck, lost, overwhelmed or burdened by experiences we haven鈥檛 fully processed. I offer a safe, non-judgemental and supportive space where we can explore what鈥檚 holding you back. Through reflective, collaborative work, therapy can deepen self-understanding, strengthen your sense of agency, and support choices that feel more aligned with who you are and what you want. Sessions are client led: you set the pace and focus, and I guide the process.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked in various creative industries and understand the pressures, insecurities and self-doubt that often accompany that world. I鈥檓 particularly interested in how people develop adapted identities or 鈥渕asks鈥 to cope, perform or belong in creative fields or elsewhere, and how these can gradually distance us from our authentic selves. Therapy offers space to reconnect with what may have been obscured or silenced over time.
鈥婭 am particularly influenced by attachment theory in terms of how our early relationships to our primary caregivers can shape and influence the way we learn to relate to the world in the present. Exploring the past can help bring a kinder more compassionate stance to why you are the way you are.
Psychotherapy can be a daunting prospect initially but I believe that in providing the right conditions, one can gently start to bring some of the burden from the shadow into the light. This can help clients that are living in isolation or denial feel more whole or less split and hopefully therefore more accepting of themselves.
Practice description
I am an integrative psychotherapist, drawing on psychodynamic, existential and humanistic approaches. This allows me to work flexibly and responsively, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model. My work is strongly informed by attachment theory and an understanding of how early relationships shape the way we learn to relate to ourselves and others. I also have specific training in the psychological impact of boarding school and how early separations can affect emotional connection and intimacy in adulthood. Together, we can explore survival strategies that once made sense but may no longer serve you.
鈥婭 am also interested in the impact of boarding school on our personal development and the potential consequence it may have on forming emotional connections and attachments. Together, we can explore the extent to which these past experiences have shaped survival strategies that may no longer serve you as they were originally intended. This way of working applies beyond boarding school clients.
Above all, I believe the therapeutic relationship is central. I work relationally, paying attention to patterns that emerge between us in the room, which often reflect wider ways of relating in your life. Feeling safe, understood and able to speak openly about the therapy is essential, and I encourage ongoing dialogue about how the work feels for you.
My first session
We will begin with an assessment phone call which will be up to 25 minutes in length. This offers you the opportunity to discuss your reasons for coming and the outcome you seek.
It is a chance for you as the client to see how I work and also for me to see if I am best suited to work with you you. If I think you could possibly benefit more from a different form of therapy then I would refer you to someone who is able to offer that.
