About me and my therapy practice

People come to counselling for a variety of reasons. Something in your life may feel painful, confusing or unmanageable.

I tailor my approach to each individual because I believe there is no single method that works for everyone. My work is grounded in counselling theory, and teaching counselling keeps that knowledge active.

Practice description

As your counsellor, I create a safe, warm and non-judgmental space where you can speak honestly about what’s happening for you and how you’re feeling, without having to hide who you are or make yourself acceptable. A place to be yourself and explore how you're feeling.

Together we might notice a pattern, question assumptions or consider the expectations you have of yourself. I may offer a gentle challenge rather than simply agree or give advice, so that you can find your own path.

Where appropriate we can also explore practical coping strategies in order to make the changes you need to make in your life, to better understand yourself and find a way forward that feels more balanced, manageable and more you.

My first session

Our first session will be a formulation session. I will ask some general questions about what has brought you to counselling, what you would like help with, and what you hope to get out of it.

Together we will begin to identify your goals so that we have a path to follow.

It is a gentle first session and there is no pressure to share everything at once. We will go at a pace that feels comfortable for you, and you can use the session to decide whether counselling with me feels like the right fit.

About me and my therapy practice

I bring a broad knowledge of counselling approaches, including person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT and Gestalt, which allows me to support you in developing or maintaining a coherent, theory-informed way of working. I work from a relational perspective, with an awareness of developmental stages and wider systemic dynamics, and I also offer psychoeducation where this supports your learning and confidence in practice.

Practice description

I offer clinical supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors, providing a supportive and reflective space to explore your client work and professional development.

I use the Seven-Eyed Model of supervision to explore your work from different perspectives, including your client, your interventions, the therapeutic relationship, and any wider relational or systemic dynamics. This helps us to think more deeply about your work and identify patterns that may not be immediately visible.

I also draw on the Integrated Developmental Model (IDM) to tailor supervision to your stage of development. This allows me to offer more structure and guidance where needed, while also supporting you to build confidence, autonomy and your own professional voice over time.

My approach balances support with appropriate challenge. I aim to support you in developing a way of working that feels coherent and grounded in theory, building on the knowledge and experience you already bring. I draw on a range of approaches, including person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT and Gestalt, where this is helpful to your work.

I place strong emphasis on self-awareness and use of self, supporting you to reflect on your responses to your clients and any parallel processes within the work.

I work within an ethical and professional framework, supporting you to maintain clear boundaries, recognise the limits of your competence, and make safe, considered decisions in your practice.

My first session

In our first supervision session, we will focus on getting to know each other and establishing a working agreement that meets your needs. This includes discussing your current practice, your experience level, and what you would like from supervision.

I will provide a supervision contract, which we will go through together to agree how we will work, including boundaries, confidentiality and ethical responsibilities.

This is also an opportunity for you to see how I work and to decide whether I am the right supervisor for you.

You are welcome to bring client work or any immediate concerns to this session.
