Availability

I currently have availability for new clients, including adults and young adults.

I offer private counselling appointments during weekday evenings, with some daytime availability depending on the day.

I appreciate that finding a time that fits around work, family and everyday life can be difficult, so I will always try to find an appointment that works for both of us.

If you are considering counselling and would like to discuss availability before booking, please get in touch. I'm happy to answer any questions and have an initial conversation to see whether I might be the right counsellor for you.

I will update this section when my availability changes or if I am taking planned time away from my practice.

About me and my therapy practice

Sometimes life just gets too much.

You might be struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, low confidence, relationships, grief, trauma or something that has happened in your past. You may feel stuck, overwhelmed or simply know that something isn't quite right, but you're not sure what to do next.

I'm Tracey, a qualified counsellor working with adults and young adults. Over the years, my experience has grown across a wide range of mental health and life difficulties. I have particular experience in anxiety, depression, self-esteem and confidence, bereavement, trauma, abuse, relationships and addiction, including supporting adults experiencing their own difficulties with drugs or alcohol.

I offer a warm, honest and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what's going on for you. You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about, and you don't have to find the 'right' words.

My approach is mainly person-centred. In simple terms, that means our sessions are about you. I won't tell you how you should think, feel or live your life. You know yourself better than anyone else. I'll listen, help you make sense of what you're experiencing and, where appropriate, help you look at things from a different perspective.

For young adults, I understand that life can bring its own pressures — relationships, family, education, work, independence, identity and confidence. You don't have to be in crisis to come to counselling.

I bring professional experience, training and a real understanding of the complexities that life can bring. I'm straightforward, warm and real, and I won't judge you.

I believe counselling should be somewhere you can be yourself, without having to pretend everything is okay.

My mantra is simple: **just be whoever you choose to be.**

If you're thinking about counselling, get in touch. We can have a conversation and see if I might be the right counsellor for you.

Practice description

My private counselling practice is a calm, welcoming space for adults and young adults who feel they could benefit from having someone outside their usual circle to talk to.

You don't need to be in crisis or have a specific diagnosis to come to counselling. Sometimes you simply know that you're struggling, things have become difficult, or you're repeating patterns that you don't understand. Counselling can give you the time and space to step back, talk things through and work out what you want for yourself.

Sessions are confidential and tailored to you. I don't follow a set script or expect you to arrive with everything neatly worked out. Some sessions may involve talking through what is happening right now; at other times we may explore experiences from the past and how they may be affecting you today.

I work mainly from a person-centred approach, while drawing on my wider training and experience where it is helpful. I believe counselling should be collaborative — we're working together, rather than me telling you what you should do.

I work with a range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem and confidence, bereavement, trauma, abuse, relationships, family difficulties and addiction. I also work with adults experiencing their own difficulties with drugs or alcohol.

For young adults, I offer a space where you can talk openly about whatever is going on, without feeling that you have to explain or justify yourself.

My aim is for you to feel comfortable being yourself. I am warm, straightforward and non-judgemental, and I will always treat you as an individual rather than a label or diagnosis.

If you're unsure whether counselling is right for you, that's okay. You can contact me to ask questions and we can talk about whether working together feels like the right fit.

Sessions are available face-to-face, online via Zoom, and home visits can be considered where appropriate

My first session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to meet, get to know each other and talk about what has brought you to counselling.

You don't need to prepare anything beforehand or know exactly what you want to say. It is completely normal to feel nervous or unsure about what to expect.

We'll talk about what is happening for you, what you would like support with and what you hope counselling might help you with. I may ask some questions about your current circumstances and your background so that I can understand you and your situation better.

We'll also talk about confidentiality, how counselling works and any questions you may have. Confidentiality is an important part of counselling, and we'll discuss how this works at the beginning of our work together.

If I am working with a young adult, we can also talk about whether and how parents or other important people in their life may be involved. This will always be discussed with the young person and handled appropriately. Where helpful and agreed, I can also offer parents some general information or psychoeducation to help them understand how they can support their young person. This does not mean sharing the young person's private counselling conversations.

There is no pressure to tell me everything straight away. We go at your pace.

I don't see the first session as an opportunity to judge you. It is about starting to build a relationship and working out together what you need.

If, after our first session, you feel that I'm not the right counsellor for you, that's okay too. Finding the right person to work with matters.

The first session is charged at my usual session rate.
