About me and my therapy practice
I practise as a Transactional Analysis (TA) counsellor. TA is both a theory of personality and a humanistic approach to psychotherapy. At its core is the belief in human potential for self-actualisation, personal growth, and responsibility. In TA, we pay close attention to the ‘transactions’ between people - the patterns of communication and relating that shape our relationships. TA also describes three main ego states – Parent, Adult, and Child – which together influence how we think, feel, behave, and relate to ourselves and others. Exploring these patterns can help us understand what keeps you feeling ‘not OK’ and identify practical ways to make the changes you want to make.
Practice description
Counselling involves a series of formal sessions in which, as your counsellor, I will talk with you. Together, we will develop a relationship where you can feel secure enough to explore issues, feelings, and beliefs that may be inhibiting you – sometimes in ways that may be outside of your awareness. We may explore life events, ways of thinking, emotions, relationships, and patterns of behaviour.
As your counsellor, I will listen to you. I will empathise, and I may also challenge you supportively to help you see and understand the difficulties that can leave you feeling ‘not OK’ more clearly, or in a different way. The counselling process can help you understand yourself more fully. It is guided by how you have grown and matured as a person, and we will consider how some of your experiences may have contributed to the problems you are facing now. As your awareness grows, you will be in a better position to change what you want to change, and to break free from unconscious, limiting patterns of behaviour and thinking.
My aim is to offer a safe, collaborative, and non‑judgemental space where you can understand yourself more fully and move towards lasting psychological wellbeing.
My first session
In our first session, we will spend time talking through what has brought you to counselling in a bit more detail. This is your opportunity to get a sense of whether you feel comfortable with me and whether I am the right person to support you. From my side, it will help me understand what you are hoping to change and whether I am well placed to help with the difficulties you would like to work on.Types of therapy

I practise as a Transactional Analysis (TA) counsellor. TA is both a theory of personality and a humanistic approach to psychotherapy. At its core is the belief in human potential for self-actualisation, personal growth, and responsibility. In my 25 years working as a mental health practitioner in the NHS, I have found TA to be an effective and compassionate way of helping people overcome personal difficulties.
In TA, we pay close attention to the ‘transactions’ between people - the patterns of communication and relating that shape our relationships. TA also describes three main ego states – Parent, Adult, and Child – which together influence how we think, feel, behave, and relate to ourselves and others.
