About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced, trauma-informed therapeutic counsellor offering short and long-term therapy for adults and couples.
I offer a calm, confidential and non-judgemental space to talk through what has been happening in your life and how it is affecting you. This may relate to emotional wellbeing, relationships, past experiences or loss, or to something in your life that feels difficult or unresolved. You do not need to arrive with a clear agenda; therapy can begin simply with where you are.
In individual therapy, we can take time to explore your thoughts, emotions and experiences at a pace that feels manageable, building understanding, stability and clarity.
In couples counselling, I provide a supportive space to explore what is happening within your relationship and how you relate to one another. This may include communication difficulties, recurring patterns of conflict, or a sense of distance or disconnection. My approach to couples work is Gottman-informed, offering a gentle structure to support understanding and change.
I work in an integrative way, drawing on different therapeutic approaches depending on what feels most helpful and appropriate. For some people, this involves gently exploring earlier experiences and long-standing patterns; for others, the focus is more on the present, developing emotional awareness, stability and supportive ways of managing day-to-day difficulties.
Where it feels appropriate, I may also integrate a reflective, forward-looking element to support personal development and meaningful change, always at a pace that feels comfortable and contained.
I have particular experience supporting parents affected by baby loss and birth trauma, and I work with great care and sensitivity in this area.
Practice description
Sessions usually take place weekly. Individual sessions last 50 minutes, and couples sessions typically last 60 minutes. I offer sessions in person, online or by telephone. Frequency can be reviewed and agreed together where appropriate.
Our work together provides a confidential, supportive space to explore your experiences thoughtfully and at your own pace. I work collaboratively, with care and attention, helping you to develop greater understanding, emotional steadiness and ways of coping that feel manageable and supportive. In couples counselling, this involves supporting you both to understand what is happening within the relationship and to find more constructive ways of communicating and responding to one another.
My training includes a wide range of therapeutic approaches, including somatic work, CBT and trauma-focused CBT, Gestalt and existential therapy, solution-focused approaches, and specialist training in birth trauma counselling and supporting parents following baby loss. My approach to couples work is Gottman-informed, offering a gentle structure to support understanding and change.
My first session
Your first session offers an opportunity for us to meet and for you to get a sense of whether working together feels right. I will aim to help you feel as comfortable and at ease as possible.
We will talk about what has brought you to counselling at this point in your life, and I may ask some gentle background questions where helpful. There is no expectation to share anything you are not ready to explore. Many coping strategies develop over time and can become deeply familiar; therapy provides a space to begin noticing these patterns with curiosity and care, and to consider what might be helpful moving forward.
In couples counselling, the first session offers space for you both to share what has brought you to therapy and how things have been feeling within the relationship. I will support each of you to feel heard and understood, and begin to build a picture of your relationship, including both the difficulties and the strengths. This initial session helps us to understand how you communicate and relate to one another, and to consider how we might work together in a way that feels supportive and constructive.
