About me and my therapy practice
I have 5+ years of experience working in specialised eating disorder service, written pieces of research around them, and lived experienced. Understanding ED's from a psychological, academic, and personal experience allows me to tailored therapy to best suit your needs and readiness. Starting therapy isn't about "fixing" what is "wrong" with you, yes we will create strategies and interventions to help target the behaviours and thoughts you want to move away from but starting from a place of understanding and compassion allows us to grow and unlearn these behaviours, perhaps behaviours we needed at another point in our lives.
I work from a compassionate, collaborative, and client-centred perspective, recognising that every person's experiences and challenges unique. I take an integrative approach to therapy, drawing on a range of evidence-based models including person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and attachment-informed work.
In our sessions, we may explore how your current thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and coping strategies have developed over time. Together, we can examine patterns that may once have served a protective purpose but are now contributing to distress or preventing you from living the life you want. Through this process, we can develop greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and more adaptive ways of coping.
I have a particular interest in recovery-focused work, including eating disorders, addictions, self-harm, and difficulties relating to emotional regulation that included but not limited to neurodiversity such as ADHD, ASD and lived experience of trauma. Alongside exploring underlying experiences and emotional needs, I can also incorporate practical strategies and therapeutic exercises where appropriate to support change between sessions.
Practice description
I think it is important to meet a client where they are at, if you need a therapist who you feel comfortable swearing in front of, not having to pretend to have things sorted, unsure, or more of a polished structured approach this can be managed in our work together as the relationship we build helps to progress therapeutic process.
I hold both a BSc and MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am an accredited member of the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø. Since establishing my practice in 2021, I have worked with clients experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, with particular experience in recovery-focused work including eating disorders, addictions, self-harm, anxiety, low self-esteem, and difficulties with emotional regulation.
My approach is integrative, meaning I draw upon a range of evidence-based therapeutic models and tailor therapy to the individual rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on your needs, this may include person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural approaches, compassion-focused interventions, and attachment-informed work.
At the heart of my practice is the belief that compassion is a powerful catalyst for change. Together, we can explore how past experiences, relationships, and coping strategies may have shaped your current difficulties, while developing healthier ways of responding to emotional distress and life's challenges.
I aim to create a therapeutic relationship built on authenticity, acceptance, and collaboration. Therapy is not about being fixed or judged; it is about developing greater self-understanding, emotional resilience, and confidence in navigating life. My role is to provide a secure and supportive environment where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to move towards the changes that matter most to you.
My first session
I offer a free initial assessment lasting approximately 45–60 minutes. This session provides an opportunity for us to get to know one another, discuss what has brought you to therapy, and explore what you would like to gain from the process.
The assessment is also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about counselling and how I work. Together, we can consider whether I am the right therapist for you and whether the support I offer meets your needs. There is no obligation to continue therapy following this session.
At Garden Room Therapy, we understand that taking the first step into counselling can feel daunting and sometimes overwhelming. We aim to make this process as comfortable and straightforward as possible. No payment is required upfront for the assessment, and you remain in control throughout. Therapy is collaborative and personalised to your individual needs, goals, and circumstances.
If we decide to work together, we can discuss a suitable approach and arrange ongoing sessions at a pace that feels right for you. I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you on your therapeutic journey.
