About me and my therapy practice

Hello! I’m Nicola, a neurodivergent affirming therapeutic counsellor working with young people and adults, with a special interest in ADHD, Autism and AuDHD whether you have a diagnosis, be self-identifying or just curious.  Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem?  Have feelings of being overwhelmed or burnout?  Some of the challenges of ADHD, Autism and AuDHD may be impacting on your behaviours, relationships, work or education/study which can lead to a lack of confidence and difficulties in achieving your goals.

How I work

I recognise that it takes a huge amount of strength and courage to take the first step towards counselling, but with compassion and empathy, I will provide a very safe, confidential, accepting and non-judgemental space for you to be heard and understood.

We can work together to better understand your experiences, yourself and your relationships and explore and make sense of the challenges you currently face.  I can support your growth by helping you to realise your potential, make positive changes and learn how to thrive with your neurodivergence as you move towards self fulfilment and better mental health and wellbeing.

I use an integrative approach to therapy whereby I am able to flexibly draw on different approaches to understand and meet your needs. These approaches include, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis, creative therapy and mindfulness.

Why work with me?

Having ADHD and Autism myself, I deeply understand the struggles of anxiety, depression, and trauma.  Having navigated my own mental health battles, I recognise how isolating and intense these feelings can be.  However, I firmly believe that with the right support, healing is achievable.  Therapy has profoundly transformed my life, and I'm dedicated to guiding others on their own journeys towards that same positive change.

Practice description

I am a qualified person centred therapeutic counsellor with ADHD and Autism (AuDHD) and a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (ÌÇÐĹÙÍø) and adhere to their ethical framework. I am also fully insured.

Using a neurodivergent-affirmative approach, I have completed various CPD in working with neurodivergent clients and I am an ADHD and Autism Certified Clinical Services Provider (PESI).

I have previously worked as a counsellor within the NHS at a GP’s practice, and for a charity where I ran a wellbeing group for women.  Presently, alongside my private practice I work as a school counsellor supporting young people aged 11-18 years.

I have an extensive background in teaching and have spent many years supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people and adults through my work as a foster carer and counsellor, something I feel deeply passionate about.  Because of this I have a firm understanding of relationships, connection and engagement and the need for empathy and compassion.

Sessions are 50 minutes and are held weekly.

My first session

I offer a free, non-obligatory, 15 minute consultation either by  telephone or video call. This will give us a chance to meet and for you to talk about what is bringing you to counselling, and I can answer any questions you may have. It will also provide us with an opportunity to see if we are good fit and whether you feel comfortable talking to me. You can then decide if you want to book a first appointment from here.
